Pros

RPCI does great things for the patients, lots of really good people work there and do a really good job.

Cons

I did not experience a positive working environment or any form of support from my supervisor or co workers. It was one of the worst working experiences of my adult life.

Pros

Great place for physicians and physician scientists. Research facilities are good and researchers at bench are helpful to each other. Promotions depends mostly on personal relationships with supervisors. If your supervisor is busy, be nice to those who have better access as they can change opinion about you by projecting false image of you. Your promotion also may depend on department administrators who have the power to manage grant funds of lab head with whom you work. Focus more on these than work to survive the politics and save from trouble.

Cons

Someone commented about politics- ABSOLUTELY TRUE- Agree 200%. Faculty promotions are also dependent on relationship to chairman- LOTS OF INTERNAL RECRUITMENT! Faculty recruitment is highly biased. You can see two faculties in some departments with huge difference in their accomplishments. One who came in open competition would have a publication in top ranked journal with several years of postdoc experience in best institutes, while the other would have done Ph.D with chairman with 1-2 years postdoc and publication in moderate journal. Faculty promotion is also biased and depends on how well you socially hangout with with Chairman and his buddies! Political powers seem more dominant here than discovery to cure cancer!!

Pros

I learned so much in my years there. I loved our patients, & looked forward to doing my best for them. Nursing staff was awesome! Best I ever worked with. Friendly employees. Very clean...kudos to housekeeping. Salary was comparable the rest of the nation, maybe even slightly above.

Cons

Newer management has taken the Institute to a low level. Patient care focus no longer evident in the last few years; it's all about money. Management & HR would rather have incompetent & lazy employees who just want to collect a paycheck, instead of people who truly care about what they do. When gossip & lies win over truth & dedication to patient safety & care, it's time to move on. Way too much favoritism in certain departments. Unfair treatment of different employees in same situation.
