Corporate Dystopia

Pros

Stable job. You'll be able to make rent. Not much else.

Cons

SCS Global is a corporate dystopia where everyone preforms menial mind-numbing tasks that have no baring on the real world. As a coordinator, you will spend 8 hours a day moving files around with little to no human contact. Departments are so siloed that employees never meet each other. Turn over is remarkably high. Clearly people are not happy here. My one year of employment at this company has made me a veteran. Average time at the company appears to be around 8 months (putting aside the outliers, such as the people who have been here 20 years). The tasks that the average scs employee performs are reminiscent of a soviet make-work jobs. Employees regularly conduct pointless tasks and write reports that no one reads. The average work load is also made longer by the fact that the company refuses to innovate in any capacity. The company (quite literally) uses glitchy CRM software from the late 90s and refuses to use any modern business tools. In addition, audits are usually rubber stamped to the point of making the entire endeavor of certification pointless. Opportunities to advance yourself in any meaningful way are none existent. The only options for growth are specific to the company and could not be applied to any non-certification related employment. If these were not reasons enough to avoid this company, there is a culture of toxic fighting and one-upsmanship throughout the company. Middle management frequently fights among themselves leaving lower level employees in the middle and forced to choose sides. I attended nearly a dozen meeting that devolved into child-like yelling and shouting between management. The climate of the company is frequently comically hostile.

Pros

Many young, passionate, smart, and fun people working to create a better world, who are being taken advantage of every day.

Cons

Low salary for the bay area, gender discrepancy in salary and promotions, management is full of cowardice, paranoia, and disrespect towards workers. The insane politics and infighting is beyond anything I've ever experienced. CEO doesn't know how to run his company. Slimy and extremely passive upper management who will happily destroy programs & people's livelihoods to protect themselves. Rampant sexism, ZERO accountability. Bafflingly weird and immature business decisions made at the highest levels. Come here if you'd like all your work undermined and your credibility challenged for low, low salary!

Pros

- most of the people working there have similar interests and shared values. you can easily make friends with co workers. - if you can afford it, 50% 401k match. - lots of PTO, holidays, and sick time. - high turnover means you can climb the ladder if you're up for it.

Cons

- pay is extremely low for Bay Area. - upper management only uses top down approaches, no feedback on management is ever requested. - no accountability. many people who have been there for several years are not good at their jobs, but play the "office politics" game well (mostly men). - CEO is sexist. he has his team of men in upper management that he trusts and no one else. women managers know this and know their opinions and views may not be heard until a male colleague says something. - so much turnover that actual progress is hard to achieve.
