Pros

I love the people I've had a chance to work with, every one is willing to help out even if it's not technically in their job description. They were also willing to hire me for a job when I had no prior experience in the specific role, I've been given the resources to succeed in that role and gotten invaluable experience.

Cons

There has been a lot of turn over which has lead to poor morale recently. Work loads have increased, with no immediate plans to increase employee count and no increase in salary to compensate.

Smart People + Great Vision = Incredible Potential

Pros

- The company hires well, so a lot of smart, energetic people around to learn from and interact with - A really great purpose- the company is changing how top investors manage their assets- both on the allocator side and investment manager side - Our clients are large, sophisticated investors including top pension funds, sovereign funds, well known universities, foundations and it's pretty awesome to be working on their behalf - A lot of opportunity for growth - Novus went from just 10 employees in 2009 to almost 100 today - Opportunity to take on a lot of responsibility- some employees have gone from interns or analysts to management fairly quickly - Our platform is second to none when it comes to analyzing investment managers and providing portfolio insight to allocators

Cons

- Long Hours- people at Novus work incredibly hard (I don't mind but I know some do) - Long-term bonuses- a large percentage of bonuses come in equity options, not just cash - A lot of change- the company believes in shaking things up fairly quickly if something is not working, and this can be jarring to some

Pros

The problems Novus is solving are far more interesting than many other tech and financial jobs out there. The company has a vision and tends to surround itself with the right people to achieve that vision. Office culture is typical of a modern "start up"... casual clothing, lots of snacks, sports chatter, great benefits, etc. Compensation seems to be right in line with the going rate. Prior to Novus, I was working in an atmosphere where you were expected to leave all fun at home when you punched into work each day (literally punch in and out... even if you were a salaried employee... we had a time clock). If I had to sum up the environment I was working in, it would be "obnoxiously anal-retentive". I left the job not because of money, but because I hated doing what I used to love.

Cons

You will work hard. Period. This either means tasks that require your undivided attention for hours at a time, lengthy 10+ hour days, or a combination of both. I personally don't find a problem with this based on my previous work experience, but it can be unappealing to some people who are used to a more lackadaisical atmosphere. HR does a decent job at planning activities for company, although I personally feel there's a schism between people who enjoy intermingling and others who avoid it. Not really a company problem.
