Dysfunctional at best

Pros

Salaries and benefits are awesome.

Cons

There is a lot of dysfunction with teams being moved around or disbanded and a CEO who is very high maintenance and low on caring about the team that works for him. It’s really all about his personal brand and the work is fairly chaotic as a result. Lots of turnover.

Pros

The building is located in Alexandria

Cons

Don’t work here. Talking heads lies firing They just fired all their long term customer service employees and replaced it with a remote company in India They hold “lunches” and then lay off long term employees. Then brag about how much money Shrm is making

Pros

SHRM provides great content to its members and staff can feel proud of that output and service to the HR community. There is also good comradery among peers. Compensation for new hires is excellent, too. If you are currently in the application process, you will likely be able to negotiate for a 15-20% higher salary because SHRM is unable to retain employees.

Cons

There is a huge disconnect between leadership (director level and above) and staff (manager level and below). No one in a leadership position knows how to manage up, and staff are left to fend for themselves to meet goals. This creates a highly volatile and competitive working environment between departments. Additionally, staff are mandated to work from the office 4 days a week AND wear a mask. This means the majority of employees are on masked Zoom calls all day, often with people they sit directly next to. Those in leadership positions, meanwhile, remain mask-less in their private offices. There is a palpable "have" and "have not" disparity. Lastly, due to extreme turnover, there is very little institutional knowledge. New employees beware: you will not have the resources readily available to meet the demand. (You will also be on a parking spot waitlist despite a dwindling number of employees.)
