Coworkers are amazing, Management is not

Pros

Incredibly rewarding work and coworkers. You will form some great bonds with those you work with! The actual work is the most rewarding I have ever done in my career. My immediate supervisor and team are really amazing. They make working a lot of fun. The work will keep you motivated in the face of the cons...

Cons

Low pay with little upward movement for salary. GS employees doing the same work make at least $30k more a year. Raises are not the correct word to describe a small percent bump that doesn't cover COL or inflation. Spot bonuses aren't very rewarding ($250 comes to $127 after taxes) and you sometimes have to push to get them to acknowledge a submission. Much of the office staff is excellent. Nothing but good words for those who help with HR, paychecks, and the rest. The higher-ups have done several actions that show tone deafness or little regard for the employees. I heard some had to trading cards for themselves so management would have an idea of who they were. How hard is it to talk to your employees for a couple of minutes to get to know them?

Thanks to the reviewer for recognizing the exceptional talent of our company’s workforce and the fine work of your supervisor and the back office team. I am glad you find the work rewarding – this contact supports an incredible government mission. The company competes for work as a federal contractor and must execute within rates negotiated with the government. Unfortunately, rates (and salaries) are not tied to inflation in government contracting; instead, an annual escalation is negotiated with the government before the contract is awarded (i.e., in Year Zero of a five-year contract); escalations are not designed to address unanticipated jumps in inflation/deflation. Our company applies all escalation increases directly to employee compensation. To provide context to the scientists and professionals considering employment with SNA, this review focuses on one location of one contract: Honolulu, Hawaii. Honolulu is one of the most expensive places to live in the US, and while we try to explain that living in HI is not the same as being on vacation in HI and that the cost of living is very high, some people find that island life is more costly than expected. Before offering a position, our recruiters and program managers talk candidly about the pros and cons of living in HI. Our goal is no surprises – we want our staff to love their job and be happy where they choose to live. Also, we are fortunate to have a terrific government client who consistently goes the extra mile to support our workforce within the rules and regulations imposed by the FAR. Since we value providing the best support to the US government, which also serves the US taxpayers, salary increases and bonuses are merit-based. The company recognizes and rewards high performance and positive impact on client missions. We reward productivity over longevity and do not have (or intend to have) a tenure-based pay scale. This high-performance expectation may not suit everyone, but it’s a cornerstone of our commitment to excellence. Some employees on this specific contract have increased their salaries by 20+% over several years. The reviewer has a misconception regarding the work of government employees. While our team may work alongside government employees, roles and responsibilities are distinct. Government employee duties extend beyond what SNA staff are tasked with or privy to. It may not be clear from the reviewer’s perspective, but government employees have more responsibility than contractors. The company is 100% supportive of employees who want to “go blue” and become government employees, and we encourage our employees to compete for government positions. Starting out as a government contractor is one of the best ways to move into a government position. Thanks for taking the time to review SNA.

It's disgusting how little they care

Pros

-Coworkers are brilliant and support each other as much as possible with a company who's policy is for people to leave so they can pay ridiculously low salaries. -HR and payroll do their job well and support the employees. -It's the only company to work for if you want to support AFDIL, DPAA, FBI, etc. as a contractor

Cons

-the truly disheartening thing about this company is that the workers have so much desire to help the company be better, which require little to no cost on their part, but they refuse to even listen. Everything is perceived as an accusation. -scientists, support staff, quality assurance with BAs, MAs, and PhDs and a desire to support noble missions are living in low income housing, food stamps, and foregoing medical care. -Healthcare is too expensive for those with dependants. -When management has visited (infrequent and almost zero communication), they make it clear that they don't value the employees. They've repeatedly have told us they 'make no money on the contract' so they don't want people to be employeed for more than 2 to 3 years to keep salaries low. They have no shame and they don't even pretend to care. -they refuse to respond to questions in writing, even on very basic questions like work travel policies, 401(k) matching, PTO. When they have incorrectly conveyed company policies on 401(k) and raises they take no responsibility (human error is a thing and we get that). -during company visits coworkers have asked about the need for parental leave we were told to take short term disability. One of my coworkers pointed out that they were LGBTQ+ and SNA Management said they supported adoption with $1200. That does not support a new family with the ability to bond with a child in any meaningful way. -morale working for this company is so low, I absolutely do not believe that some of these reviews are real.

We want our employees to be happy, and we will do whatever we can for our high-performing employees within the confines of our contracts. However, for example, with Federal contracting, we are hired and agree to provide a specified labor mix. We cannot create a new position our client has not asked for just because an employee feels they should be promoted. However, professional growth can be achieved outside of the contract if an employee provides the best value to the contract and is selected by the government to move to a government position that has more responsibility and authority. Government positions are earned through hard work and dedication. We encourage our employees to seek professional growth by moving to government positions.

Pros

There are some nice analysts that work there.

Cons

Everything else. Particularly the ethics of this place, and how they treat the contractors here. If you like being verbally beat down and told to compromise ethics in your work, this is the place for you.
