Pros
You can start as a shelf filler and be senior management within a few years without any qualifications, you just need political nouse and an abilty to bounce stress on to others/make the business profitable by any means necessary within the law
Cons
The senior management are shelf fillers with no qualifications who will bounce all the stress onto you and if your division is not profitable then you will need to reconsider your life choices as your work environment will be the minimum standard required by the law. It is a bottom-feeding company who work on a very low margin so they can't afford to offer any frills to staff - it is either minimum wage for 80% of employees or well below industry average for any roles requiring higher salaries. There are no real benefits for staff they are just fake to lure in fresh victims. There is some fake reward scheme where if you make them millions of pounds you can get points to trade in for a £10 voucher. They say they offer a cycle2work scheme (government's scheme not their's) and when you apply for a bike they've never heard of the scheme. They have a pension but the maximum contribution is 1% of your salary so when you retire you will get an extra £1 a week on top of your state pension. As an example of how this corporate machine treats its staff - at one point they disabled the heating in the winter and dimmed the lights to save money so everyone was freezing and everyone complained that their eyes hurt while working in the shop. When we raised that everyone is getting sick from the cold and our eyes hurt they said there is no law about minimum temperature in the workplace and the lighting is above the minimum number of lumens required by the government. Treating staff like a unit of labour can work for the share price but it does not bode well for the reviews on Glassdoor.co.uk
