Pros

Incredibly fast paced, huge opportunity to develop your career if you're able to keep up with the ever changing goal posts & deliver the numbers. Great variation in locations & international opportunities available. At a local level, Management teams support each other well.

Cons

SSP is a very commercially focussed business with very clear direction from the board. Profit is the priority as expected but there is a ruthless approach to delivery. Decisions are often made at the top without a care for the people working on the front line - as a result, SSP sees a high level of disengaged colleagues, turnover & the quality of service offered to customers suffers as a result. There's very little to enjoy about making decisions which are having a detrimental impact on your direct reports, their teams & the perception of customers and clients. Operational processes at a senior level are very disjointed, overhead spend is incredibly tight and basic operational requirements are ignored unless there is a clear business case which demonstrates a return. In summary, the business is run using a retail model when the majority of what SSP do is catering & hospitality - it requires an element of investment in front line teams to engage them - these people look after the customer...

Pros

Staff discount: 50%off at SSP outlets. However, when I joined many staff were annoyed about this because they used to get a free meal each day before Kate Swann snatched it away.

Cons

Very profit orientated at the expense of staff Up selling and cross selling imposed on staff (I had to sign a contract on it whilst there) Minimum wage Poor staff benefits system of 'points' which were never given out Poor management Poor training Poor shifts CEO is on millions whilst team members are on minimum wage with little benefit No culture - no staff ever went out on nights out Christmas night out - staff expected to pay for their meal!

Pros

A part from making some friends who are on the same "boat" I can´t think of any pros at all.

Cons

Not a place to make a career or to learn any thing. Basic wages. Always understaffed. Poor management who don´t care about anything. Rude customers but according to SSP policy you need to smile at them like a piece of .... Poor environment especially at Euston Station (way to get the goods in during nights when the station closed and the only way how to get it in is through out the basement sometimes with lift out of order), rats and other pests around the store and basement warehouse (it is not really pleasant). No facilities to take a break or rest no toilets near the Network Rail, (station security) ,making your hard work even harder by bullying you for nothing. Especially Allan, a station manager from Euston.
