Pros

I recently joined SSP and throughly enjoy working here. I had good induction and training to do my job properly. I have very supportive manager.

Cons

I go beyond the extra mile to serve my customers and work above my paid hours ie clock out and then do tidying up , shelving etc.. Is there any chance the wages could be slightly raised above minimum pay set by the government?

Pros

Some colleagues were friendly and supportive The role provided basic Bakery training with a useful insight into the food service industry.

Cons

A work uniform was not supplied for the first two months. Given that I worked in the bakery and regularly handled frozen stock, I had to purchase my gloves, which felt unreasonable. The job description was misleading—I was hired as a BAKER, but spent around 90% of my time on the shop floor acting as a Trading Assistant, including stock rotation duties. While I didn’t mind this in itself, it was never mentioned as part of the job description or the training process. Management was unsupportive and dismissive. I requested specific days off well in advance, but was still scheduled to work on those days. I was also reprimanded for briefly chatting with a colleague and laughing at a joke made by a customer—this felt disproportionate and demoralising. Overall morale among staff was very low, and the bakery’s stock management was disorganised and frustrating to deal with daily.
