Pros

connected to the state, which means that eventually there's some sort of pension

Cons

very large so the bureaucracy can be pretty messy. Also, they tend to move you around to different departments which can be difficult. Often work gets backed up as well, so you often have to pick up the slack of other people

Pros

They are very understanding and great to work for.

Cons

It's a great place to work but not the pay is not great if you're a student. Students are definitely underpaid and would earn so much more if they worked in different locations. I feel like the university takes advantage of students working on campus who are not eligible for a workstudy grant. Even workstudy students get paid more than student assistants who don't qualify for the grant. I think it's a different story for graduate students, but undergraduates definitely get the worst pay.

Pros

The pay is good for a postdoc, and with a large faculty there is plenty of opportunity for collaboration. It gave me a chance to continue and finish up some projects that I began in graduate school. This aspect I found to be very useful, as it allowed me t o ramp up to productivity quite quickly while also starting some new projects that would take awhile before coming to fruition.

Cons

Just like any postdoc, it's a temporary position, so you should begin with an end in mind. You're a bit isolated geographically, so inter-university collaboration may be minimal. It snows a lot too, so be prepared for it.
