Poor IT Leadership

Pros

Good pay for the area, some career growth opportunity IF you get in with the right people

Cons

Many members of IT leadership here are more concerned with furthering their careers than anything else. Nepotism is rampant, so political and friend connections take precedence over qualifications and team fit. In addition, there is very little (read: no) accountability for getting work done, or the quality of said work. This has created an environment where many things do not work, and the few qualified, productive employees are left to clean up the mess. Surprisingly for a hospital, ethics often take the back seat, with members of leadership willing to back each other up in unethical situations, leaving staff with no recourse without fear of retaliation.

Salem Health Response

Salem Health works hard to create and encourage an environment of open and transparent communication and positive camaraderie. However, creating this environment requires each of us as employees to work through issues and offer positive intent and understanding when things don’t go our way. It takes both parties (employee and employer) to create a positive place to work. This person seems incredibly dissatisfied and, as such, I hope they are able to find a new place to work where they can become a positive influence.

good for front line staff - bad place to be in administration

Pros

The pay was good, the commute was nice. The lunchroom has great salads. Lots of learning opportunities. Front line staff care about their patients.

Cons

Constant change makes it difficult to know what expectations are to be met. Senior Leaders are focused on Senior Leaders - not patients regardless of the rhetoric used. The Hospital is distrusted by MDs and the community there are good reasons for the mistrust. Salem Health has difficulty in follow through.
