Not without its flaws, but overall a positive experience. Would work there again.
Pros
Flexible scheduling when I was in college. Mostly self managed (clocked in, did my work, clocked out). Low stress. Didn’t take work home with me. Communication with management outside of work was very limited. Management in this particular part of the club just wanted you to show up on time, do the work that was asked of you, and to make things look nice. I was rarely asked to work harder/faster so that I could help in another area.The pay was reasonable. You were able to wear your normal clothes/shoes. My managers would often jump in and help, which is something I respect very much.
Cons
If I recall correctly, they did not offer holiday pay. The bonus was called “Sam’s Share” which I believe was based on store performance. If you left or were terminated at the wrong time, you would miss all of the Sam’s Share, despite having worked nearly that entire time. Rather than being prorated, they conveniently had this hard cut off in which you didn’t get any of it. The management in my area of the club was good, but I could tell it was a huge issue in other areas, so my positive experience is largely based on having reasonable managers.
