The only coffee shop I've ever heard of that makes you wear a uniform. And you have to buy it!
Vastly underpays employees. Favoritism towards certain stores in the franchise. If your store is in a "not-so-nice" part of town other locations look down on you. Probably getting underpaid for working there too. Some managers will adjust your timesheets to fit their budget or to punish you. So keep track of your clock-ins!
The upper management makes the job way more stressful than it needs to be. Lot's of ingenuine people working for them and a lot of manipulation. The District Managers act like they are God's gift to the earth when in all actuality they just steal hours from employees and sit on their phones the whole time. Oh and belittle you and your manager. The owners, the Metcalf's, don't care about anything other than filling their pockets with cash. Anytime you see them is when they're looking for something to yell at you about, or if your store has a good week in sales. If you work in a sketchier part of town they definitely will not come through your store. So take that for what its worth.
One of my coworkers was transferred to a new store after she was essentially manipulated by upper management. The night before her first shift at this new store she was T-boned in a car accident and management was only worried about whether or not her shift was covered. They then began to belittle her and tell her she was letting the company down by not showing up for work after she was in a CAR ACCIDENT. She obviously quit.
Somehow these people have managed to turn a coffee shop into pure communism. So if you like to be underpaid, unsupported, and belittled this is the job for you. I've worked a lot of jobs but I've never been so disgusted with the owners or upper management of a company before.
