Pros

Talented people, most of whom fully commit to a fun office culture

Cons

Poor leadership has created an office full of puzzled talent left to make it up as they go. If/when processes, priorities, feedback, and deadlines are defined at all, they often change on a whim, creating unnecessary work that costs teams time and money. Very much a startup, Securly hides behind a youthful office environment teeming with energy, but lacks the necessary guidance to spearhead success. To corral a team of fresh college graduates is an ambitious undertaking. Add misaligned management, zero employee training, inconsistent communication, poorly defined expectations, and a product that clearly hit the market prematurely, and you’ve got a recipe for failure. The company is scrambling and employees feel it.

Thank you sharing this feedback. Incidentally, as of last week we brought in a technical project manager, a product manager and are now considering a marketing manager for the specific operation you are most likely referring to. I am sorry this didn't happen fast enough to help you while you were part of our journey. Thank you so much for making a dent while you were here.

Pros

Hard to think of one

Cons

The CEO keeps losing industry veterans and core team members and this after the company already been through multiple rounds of RIFs before it was acquired. All support, product and sales leadership and managers gone one after another. Bored and uninspired at work. CEO reacts to each exit and claims to be in control only to lose a bunch more. More excuses more town halls and more exits. The cycle repeats. The company feels rudderless. Competition is stiff and morale is at an all time low.

Pros

Great culture. Lots of people I legit enjoy spending time with. Food and coffee, happy hour on Fridays. PTO is great and fair. Not lotof drama except at the leadership level

Cons

Owners are completely unprepared for growth. Communication between owners and execs seems like it is doesn't exist. No teams know what others are doing. Marketing is useless and teams are on their own to get stuff done. Even product names aren't been agreed upon and are different depends on who ask. Actually embarrassing to talk with customers sometimes because they even get different information. Outsourcing a ton of stuff to India and Mexico because it's cheap labor. Cutting costs is more important than hiring quality people I guess? Execs come and go at an alarming rate because the owners don't communicate well. CEO is good just inexperienced but the other owner is intense and maybe manic. Very cocky and doesn't listen to anyone

Thanks for sharing this feedback - I will work rapidly towards addressing the concerns here that are actionable (communications looking like the main issue being raised). A quick note on some of the other items - We did have explosive growth in leadership - from 4 to 10. Leadership integration in the middle of peak sales/marketing/building is always a challenge. With innovation across 8+ product lines and a newly acquired company, we are definitely not pretending operations are easy, but under the newly expanded leadership, they are more buttoned-up than ever. My co-founder's insanity is exactly what helped build this 100+ employee operation in under 5 years that now serves 10K schools worldwide. Most people who work with him closely find him an approachable, down to earth leader who they would work for any day. India and MX Ops - we have hired the best of the best, and the projects/products coming out of these operations are world class. A note on communications related initiatives happening today: 1. We have hired 2 full-time members who are veterans in Learning & Development - and launched the Securly University internally. The idea is to have training modules for everyone professionally done by working directly with the BU heads. 2. We have monthly all-hands, weekly business-syncs, daily sales/support/engineering scrums, Slack lounges, etc in place to facilitate all levels of communications we could foresee. 3. We have recently also brought in a Chief of Staff to help keep leadership & business-managers in sync. I will work internally to get even better at communications - starting right away.
