Pros

Hybrid work schedule, decent healthcare coverage and pay

Cons

I have no idea where to begin with this place. It's one of the worst places to work on the planet. I was so excited to work at Selective when I first started because of all of the positive things I heard; sadly after almost 6+ years, I'm a former burnout employee who never wants to step back in an office environment because of how terrible this company treated me throughout the years. There is 0 work life balance to this place, no matter how much they will preach it during your interview and in internal emails, don't believe them. I swear, this employee base is brainwashed to think this is a "great place to work" because they need to lie to themselves to get through the day. Managers and senior leaders want employees to make Selective their entire life AND personality. With the employees that play the game of making Selective their entire life and personality, they are consider a favorite on a team and those individuals will get raises more frequently, bigger bonuses, and of course promotions like crazy. With the employees who have a hard boundary of work life balance are punished with more work, not enough credit, and always belittling. Also, the political game and backstabbing at Selective is one of the worst I have ever seen at any company. Oh also, as in most companies, HR will never protect you. Selective's HR department will not only NOT protect you, but they will throw you under the bus too! I know my review will not change the cultural at Selective, but I hope it will save some poor innocent soul considering this company to work at. TLDR: Do not work here if you want to have any sort of joy in your life. This place will drain your soul.

Pros

-free food provided from time to time -hybrid schedule

Cons

-Snakey team members that will talk crap about each other and then pretend to be everyone’s friend (Typically the older women in the office). -You are given a mentor but the mentors will make you feel stupid for asking questions (not all, but my mentor specifically). -Senior underwriters can blatantly disrespect people and get away with it because they are tenured underwriters. -No confidentiality when you disclose an issue to a manager (in my case, I went to my manager with an issue and she disclosed this information to the person I was talking about and that created tension). -You are constantly hounded to hit rate and retention goals that are ridiculous -You are expected to do extra work that someone else did not finish/miss if it’s your book of business. -

Pros

Work hybrid schedule, nice office location.

Cons

Expect to be disrespected by the HR Manager, Office Manager, and Regional Manager on a daily basis. I have never encountered such an immature and backstabbing work environment in my entire insurance career. My immediate supervisor hides in his office as often as possible and has zero desire to support his staff.
