Pros

The only way to see any Pros is if you are "in good" with management. If you aren't, always be prepared to have a target on your back.. You never know when it's your time Go along with the agenda and you'll be fine.

Cons

Too many to list but let's start with this.. I was "in" until I wasn't. I experienced sexual harassment and that manager is STILL there. Yup! If you don't drink the Kool Aid you're considered a Judas and they WILL get you out. Keep opinions to yourself, they ask for input but ultimately don't want it. Work life balance? They don't get it. Trust me and other reviews YOU WILL WORK AT LEAST 60 hours a week! They don't promote based on Knowledge. After all the VP on Personal UW has never even been an UW 😂 Remember, you aren't a person.. You're just that 5 digit EMPLOYEE #

Cons

Pros

Good 401K, stock options and hybrid environment

Cons

All developers are overworked and have to play the anchoring role to bring all the teams in same page, apart from doing the actual coding and unit testing tasks. No career growth unless you are in the favorite list of the upper management, and managers can not understand the complexity of the deliverables, and they bring all the negative things to the table with zero appreciation.

Pros

I have been with the company for the past 2 years and have noticed a friendly work environment. Managers are willing to help. There are mentoring incentives and learning resources.

Cons

Payscale, I honestly thought is slightly below market.

Pros

Salaried paycheck which is guaranteed pay. A few decent coworkers.

Cons

This pertains to MUSIC Brokerage (E&S. Poor management. Lagging and outdated systems and processes. Poor training. There is one person who can train on several procedures. Manager has no idea how to delegate work, is often overwhelmed and depends on her direct reports to figure out everything for her and themselves. A lot of underhanded gossip, picks and chooses amongst employees. Consider working in this department is like living in the Wild Wild West. I felt very singled out and attacked when I spoke up on certain matters. I was also the only African American person within this division of MUSIC.

Horrible, Toxic Working Environment

Pros

One of the only major companies (outside of Thorlabs) to work for in Newton, New Jersey that pays okay and has benefits.

Cons

Never have I worked somewhere where you constantly have to look over your shoulder and walk on eggshells. The people who thrive here are brown-nosing sycophants, who look for any opportunity to throw someone under the bus to make themselves look better. I can't speak for all departments, but the flood insurance department was terrible to work in. Training is not very thorough and they throw you into the fire and then get upset when you don't excel immediately. Management does not trust anyone to do their job and it's obvious with the sheer amount of micromanaging they do. They even time your bathroom breaks and lunch breaks to make sure you aren't stealing company time. Additionally, I witnessed two coworkers of mine being bullied by the manager of the division, who is incredibly short-tempered and unprofessional--many conversations were had with HR and somehow this person is STILL in the flood department. This manager also became angry and took it personally when another individual gave notice due to the toxic work environment and the manager proceeded to tell this person "good luck working at Walmart then". Additionally, one of my friends who works remotely for Selective was reported by a coworker for having her baby in the background of a video meeting. That is truly despicable behavior, especially when my friend has excelled in her role for many years. Overall, unless you are literally about to be homeless, I would not recommend working here. There are many insurance companies that offer remote roles these days.

Opportunities for promotion can be scarce depending on department Your experience at this company is heavily dependent on who your manager is, the experience is very inconsistent
