Pros

- great location and working environment - great and smart co-workers - decent benefits - flexible hours

Cons

- management is getting toxic and take things very personally - management expecting huge targets with no planning and refusing to take responsibilities upon failure - executives try to run a startup of this size like an enterprise, which is not smart - no career development opportunities for employees - bonus is very low - hard works are not been recognized and difficult to be paid off, promotion is hard for political reasons. - business teams and developer teams are not been valued equally

You’re right, when it comes to our company and our employees, we do take things very personally. We’re passionate about our company’s success and take accountability for every failure. With regards to our huge targets I’d see this as a compliment! It’s a testament to our faith in our employees’ competencies - developers and business teams alike. You’re also right about our lack of planning - we acknowledged this was a shortcoming, which is why we hosted full-day planning offsites for each team, and a lunch and learn for the company as a whole. There will undoubtedly be more skillsets that we need but lack internally, and we’re committed to hiring expertise to fill the gaps and providing training opportunities. With regards to being too enterprise-like, we believe this is a misnomer. We are dedicated to serving our clients, which happen to be large, established financial institutions. These organizations expect us to adhere to their standards. While this means we have to implement process and professionalism, it does not come at the expense of innovation and autonomy. We know that striking a balance––startup culture with enterprise standards––hasn’t been easy, and we are not surprised that some employees have opted out of the journey. We do our best to retain everyone, but unfortunately, there is no one-size-fits-all culture.

Pros

- there are some very smart and talented people working at this company (except for most management) - coworkers are super friendly - pretty flexible hours - benefits are great - office is in a great location, lots of great restaurants nearby - standing desks

Cons

- the culture used to be great, now it's toxic - company only seems to recognize those who put in overtime - does not value those who work really hard and do great work but who want work/life balance - every project is rushed and quality suffers - salaries are not competitive - lack of experience on exec team and unwillingness to take responsibility - environment is not conducive to innovation and creativity

Thank you for your feedback. You’re right about the talent and intelligence at Sensibill - there’s an abundance of both here! We’ve worked hard to build a place where people like coming to work and enjoy spending time with their colleagues. As for the “toxicity” you describe - I suspect what you’re feeling is an aversion to some of the changes. The work culture, our mission, and even our vision has changed in the past 6 months. In truth, these are natural growing pains of a venture-backed, high-growth startup transitioning to a scaleup. Even so, that’s not an excuse. We acknowledge we’re not praising, rewarding, or celebrating as much as we should be, but it’s not for a lack of recognition - we wouldn’t be where we are if it weren’t for every single individual's output. We take full responsibility for not communicating that well enough to you while you were here, and we will do better moving forward.

Pros

- Very good compensation and benefits. - Beautiful office. - Great co-workers who are very smart.

Cons

- The culture is becoming very toxic. - Management does not take ownership for failures - It is very common for people to get the "bait and switch", where they interview for one role and are given another. - Work/Life balance is not respected. - No career roadmap

I'm sorry to hear your experience was a "bait and switch". To the best of our knowledge, this has not happened. We implement 3 surveys and a performance review within the first 3 months, where we directly ask new employees if the role is shaping up to be as communicated and as they expected. If these fall short anywhere, we address it. All managers have regular one-on-one meetings with their direct reports to discuss development aspirations and any obstacles or roadblocks the employee is facing. I encourage you to seek out the Director of Talent & Culture to discuss this as this goes against our values, in particular integrity. This may even be a great opportunity for you to have a broader discussion about your career development and roadmap. Hope to hear from you.
