Pros

Due to the size of the business it was very easy to communicate with the team. Very passionate group of hardworking individuals. Always striving to exceed Kind and helpful environment for staff

Cons

Due to its small size, opportunities for promotion were limited, and it felt as though the company was reaching its growth limits.

Pros

I originally joined the company when it was still Finaro, and my first two years there were genuinely positive. Finaro had a banking license, which naturally made the environment more structured and sometimes stiff, but overall it was a fun and rewarding place to work. The team was strong, the work was interesting, and despite the regulatory constraints, it was a pleasant and respectful environment.

Cons

After around two years, Finaro was acquired by Shift4, and the Malta office became the head office for EU processing. Unfortunately, from that point onward, things started to go downhill. The work environment shifted dramatically and became very “American-style” in the negative sense: heavy on expectations, very light on support, recognition, or employee well-being. Hard work was not rewarded, and there were no clear paths for progression despite raising these concerns multiple times. Support from management was lacking, and feedback often went unheard. One of the most frustrating aspects was being offered a remote position when deciding to move to another country, only to have every discussion related to pay, nonexistent benefits, or unfair RSU distribution consistently handled above my head with reasoning that 'I am working remotely and other people not, therefore, I should be grateful'. Following the acquisition, many colleagues began leaving the Malta office. The lack of staff became very noticeable, yet no meaningful support or action was taken to address the workload or to support the remaining employees. Morale declined significantly as a result.

Pros

- WFH (which ends soon) so not really a pro anymore - Good people to work with

Cons

Where to begin... Following the acquisition, the work environment—particularly within Client Services—has deteriorated significantly due to a lack of clear structure, communication, and leadership alignment. There is minimal transparency around expectations or priorities, and cross-department collaboration is often challenging. Other teams can be pushy or dismissive, frequently providing little to no constructive feedback while placing unrealistic demands on support teams. Workload and pressure have increased substantially without corresponding resourcing or incentives. Budget constraints have resulted in understaffed support teams, leading to employees being stretched far beyond reasonable capacity and effectively expected to perform the work of multiple roles simultaneously. This has created an environment that is overwhelming, mentally exhausting, and unsustainable. One particularly demoralizing change was the shift of salaried employees to hourly compensation, which felt like a step backward and further eroded morale. Despite the focus on growth and acquisitions, there appears to be limited investment in employee well-being, development, or retention. Escalation processes are also problematic. Development teams often prioritize lower-impact initiatives while being unresponsive or overly critical when support escalates urgent, real-time issues affecting clients. This dynamic places additional strain on support staff who are already under significant pressure. Since the acquisition, morale across Client Services has noticeably declined. Many employees feel disengaged, undervalued, and burnt out, with little confidence that conditions will improve. For those considering support roles in particular, this environment can be extremely challenging, and the compensation does not adequately offset the stress and workload. There are also operational challenges with offshore teams that lack sufficient product and business context, which further complicates workflows and adds unnecessary friction. Overall, this is not a supportive or sustainable environment for Client Services employees, especially post-acquisition. Prospective candidates should carefully evaluate whether this aligns with their expectations for work-life balance, mental well-being, and long-term growth.
