Pros
This is still a "family-owned" business; in fact, I see some members of the Simplot family in the cafeteria almost every day. There is no pressure from investors to grind people into the ground for revenue. The company cares about its employees and provides great benefits. There are a lot of opportunities to travel to the factories we own around the world, and a lot of support for employees who want to transition vertically or horizontally within the company. There are more "old-timers" - people who have worked at Simplot for 10, 20, 30, 40+ years - than I've ever seen at any other company. They laid off 0 people during COVID despite cancelling a bunch of projects. Potatoes and other food products are pretty resistant to economic turbulence, so the past few years that have been really challenging for America's economy as a whole have been just fine for Simplot.
Cons
Management seems to just spend their time going on fancy retreats and doing re-orgs every few months. Not really sure how they contribute to building revenue for the company.
