Many jobs are at plants and require shift work at some point in order to gain experience and move up. It can be difficult to break into the higher paying jobs, but this also shows that they are careful about who they move into upper management which in turn leads to a very strong senior management team. Poor communication skills and lack of leadership at the plant level are abundant and can be frustrating at times.

The upper management doesn't really care about the employees. It is a private company so they can do what they like and they take care of the ones that they like.

The culture at Simplot does not seem to allow innovation, but innovation is expected by upper level management. It seems that there is a breakdown between corporate communicated standards, and what unit level management actually does. There is a definite barrier between hourly and salaried employees that seems to be somewhat influenced by the presence of the teamsters union. I was never a union employee, so I never could understand this separation. I do know that whenever I spoke up, I was basically told to sit down and shut up.

Its not what it used to be and is not a good place to consider for a career any longer and after management changes it's only gotten worse. They don't care about people anymore since JR is gone and ethically, upper management knows no bounds if they decide it's your turn to go. Its turned into something that can be abusive and downright hostile and theres no longer anyone you can trust as a mentor.

Nothing really sticks out as a down side. Upper management is receptive to concerns and complaints are addressed with reasonable resolve. The Company has experienced strong rate of growth and continues to position itself strategically for continued future growth and strength in the markets it serves.
