Pros

Dedicated employees IoT market growing and evolving quickly Pays well for some roles

Cons

SmartThings is potentially one of the worst-run companies in Silicon Valley. At SmartThings there is little to no attention to employee development, culture, or long-term vision. Company priorities change with heavy influence from Korean managers who have little to no knowledge of market needs. Project timelines are arbitrarily pushed on engineers, who take the brunt of the load. Though there are recent improvements, this pattern comes from the top. SmartThings recently experienced a layoff that has shattered morale, with people only recently hired let go just as quickly and given limited notice a sub-par severance. Some employees lost long-term payouts. Company leadership, including the CEO and in particular Dora Hsu, are way over their heads and have little to no engagement with or respect for their teams. GIC, the holding company that oversees SmartThings, is equally out of touch in its management of incubation and acquired companies. Unless you have limited options, stay away.

Pros

The website's original function and idea is great.

Cons

Very unprofessional.. Lacks direction.. Total chaos! Poor management and acquisition pains have drastically hurt the company on many levels. Copious amounts of meetings and intrusive process drain employees time and energy away.

Mountain View Engineering - Very Bad

Pros

Pretty much none if you are working in Mountain View Engineering Team. If you are with Minneapolis team, there are some really smart folks from who you will learn a lot.

Cons

Most of the engineering is done in Minneapolis and only support work is done in Mountain View. Cloud Engineering team is pretty much clueless and is left with 1 or 2 engineers. If you want to put your future under the bus, this is the place. Most of the work is moved to Korea and only bits and pieces are left here. Almost all the Founders of the company have left and the place does not have a CEO anymore. It is mostly run by the Business savvy people who are there only for their own interests.
