Identity crisis with growing pains

Pros

Good product in a great industry. Great location for the company in the Bay Area. There is a lot of potential.

Cons

Very erratically run company. No real vision for the company and the leadership has no idea how to scale in the iOT industry. Great product idea, poor execution and poor partnership with Samsung. The recent large layoff impacted many of my friends, some that have been with the company since the start.

Pros

The people work in here are experts. You are surrounded by extremely smart people. Everyone is friendly, helpful and open minded. There is no competition between colleagues. Everyone is evaluated based on his/her own performance. Packages are wonderful. Ask around and see who can match how much SmartThings pays. No other company can match it! Great health benefits. Great work life balance. Free snacks, beverages and beer in the kitchen. All the things you can imagine are taken care of by the company so you can focus on making positive contributions to the company and write clean and good code. I'm so lucky to join SmartThings. It's definitely greatest opportunity in my career.

Cons

No cons so far. No free parking but you can't complain about that because the location is next to downtown Minneapolis and surrounded by great restaurants and next to Mississippi River.

Pros

The people are cool. Your co-workers will be fun to be around.

Cons

The management all run around like chickens with their heads cut off. One fire to the next. It is just an endless race to put out fires as fast as possible. Expecatations are never aligned acorss teams so when you deliver you can expect lots of "feedback". They also care little about their employees and work them like dogs and then have the audacity to ask for more. Would I work here again? Absolutely not!
