Pros

Ability to learn something new every day. Anyone who wants to dig in and learn, there is a vast level of knowledge you can learn. This is transferred into opportunities within the company. It's really nice to see a product described in a specification, review the drawing and then actually see it and answer questions as it is built on the factory floor. I enjoy working with a very good team of knowledgeable technical staff who will work with you to solve customer's ever changing environmental challenges. It's also really nice to go home and know that what I've done at work helps keep Earth a little nicer. Really nice to give back. We have 70+ years in business. With the wave of retirements, it is fun to watch us integrate the new team members into the S&L system. Many new systems and ideas are being integrated into S&L as we're in the process of reinventing ourselves for next 70+ years.

Cons

Due to retirements, there has been a lot of knowledge retire too - 45 years of knowledge, 35 years, 40 years, 37 years.........Longevity of employees has been great. We have had a large wave retire. The challenge now in front of us is to bring new people up to speed on our technical product line, and integrate them into our system. We're learning from their other experiences and incorporating some of those systems and ideas, when it makes sense.

Pros

Did have a good name in the industry as they were known for good engineered solutions and quality products.

Cons

Common daily scenario: receive order, send submittals 4 weeks late, acknowledge order but don't agree on T&C until after product has shipped, tell customer product will be 4 -8 weeks late, then as the revised (late) ship date gets close push it back week after week after week after week, ship product, product shows up wrong and doesn't work, ship replacement parts to fix that take the customer several hours to fix, when they try to get reimbursed for expenses tell them we don't cover labor warranty. S&L is losing customers that will never come back. Most of their rep force hates selling their products because of the headache.
