Pros

Good health benefits...that's pretty much it.

Cons

The entire plant is corrupt to the core. They allow drug addicts to work on the floor while firing the good workers. I have never been rewarded or complimented sincerely on my work, and I do really good work. I have applied to several different positions in the plant I work in without any luck...I have been lied to repeatedly about raises and promotions...They will not give me any opportunity to advance. They promoted another coworker over me who did not have a degree, with very little experience over me. I absolutely hate this place, and I'm only still here because haven't been able to find anything yet...our human resources executive essentially runs the plant, and is a lying, backstabbing battle ax who deals drugs on the side. My department supervisor is a lying piece of crap...you can trust no one, and this place literally makes me want to kill myself...

Pros

Well, it is a paycheck. Regular employees are ok to work with most of the time. I seriously can not think of any other reason to work here.

Cons

Worst management I have ever had in my entire career. They put their friends in higher paying positions even when they don't have the skills needed. They are arrogant, and cannot be wrong, even when you prove it. This applies to several, if not all, of upper management. They preach teamwork, but in actuality you will become the work horse- there is no team. I have seen hard working people regularly have their jobs threatened, including myself, for no reason other than "the boss is pouting" to put it nicely. It is a terrible, stressful, negative place to work. To top it all off, its in the middle of nowhere with nothing to do but go to Walmart. Upper managent will ask you to move here, use you and when they are done they will throw you away, especially if you question them or have a better idea than the boss. Somehow that makes you a threat instead of a productive employee.

Pros

Smithfield Packing gives charity to the public.

Cons

I've worked at Smithfield for 4 years and the whole time I was hararassed by the coworkers. Its called reversed racism. The management tried to get rid of me constantly just to get rid of the racist problem instead of fixing the problem. They didnt want to have a riot on their hands I guess. Very unprofessional staff, managers, line leaders, and department secretary. Most managers are uneducated and can't pronounce words correctly. Sexual favoritism thoughout the company like a wild fire...and the list of cons can go on and on...
