Pros

I have been with SoCalGas for many years. When I came into the company, they actually cared for their employees. Now not so much. It's all about the bottom line. Part of the problem is Sr. Management is heavily influenced by Sempra which is SCG parent company and they set most of the policies. They are working employees now harder than ever, they have taken away so many critical perks, and the salaries are not that competitive. We do have an incentive but every year the senior management puts on a fire drill and employees start the gossip mill that we will not get one. And, since it is not guaranteed, it can happen. However, when people come into the company, they heavily publicize it as a selling point since the salaries again are not competitive. We do have cash balance which is similar to a pension and the benefits are okay. Not the best, but okay. Just know what you are getting into. They are particularly working engineers to death since they are knee deep in a lot of stuff now and not enough overhead. And their priority is maximizing profits for shareholders and not employee wellness and retention. It's deeply troubled me seeing how this company has turned itself from a caring balanced family company into a greedy Corporate bueuracratic sweat shop.

Cons

Workloads. Bad management in parts; you never know with constant restructuring if you will get a bad boss who will make your life hell.

Pros

None. I'm required to place fillers here.

Cons

None. Tax credit hires. Terrible working conditions. Management plays favorite, and promote kiss-but employees. No one is your friend here. Management plays def to employee complaints, supervisors don't know what time it is, they lack basic education, and lack command for the English language. Supervisors lack the necessary tools to reduce overall cost, they lack the inability to improve employee performance, and also lack the ability to do their job effectively. The bottom line is that a high school student with 10 years work experience is trying to do what an MBA is prepared to do, and management still promotes supervisors that worked with them years ago. So the management will play favorite, even though these supervisors don't know what six sigma is even though its free to learn at the firm, these supervisors don't want to learn. So supervisors are just watching out that their jobs are not in or won't be taken away from them. Company is filled with engineers, and these people lack basic human interaction, and can't communicate effectively in person, and majority of times they are rude, condescending, and lack common courtesy to other employees. Employees with true management and leadership experience will usually be fired for unbeknownst reasons, because they pose the biggest threats to immediate supervisors. Managers overly train employees, which reduces employee performance, and even creates employee distractions. Supervisors if your training your employees with anything, let it be relevant to the employees actual work your wasting company time and money.

Company is going downhill

Pros

Job security. Easy work. Decent benefits. With a lot of people leaving, there should be a lot of opportunities to move up.

Cons

Inflexible hybrid work schedule, micro management from the executive level. I've worked for the company for over 15 years and decided to leave due to the poor remote work policy. Many of my professional peers has left within the last 6 months for the same reason. One of my friends just left because her baby had bottle aversion after her maternity leave. She asked to work fully remote for a few more months was didn't hear back. But her team literally hired fully remote contractors to do her job while she was on leave. They obviously just don't care. The Company requires you to badge in your reporting location 3 days a week but they don't let you reserve your desk. So it's jungle rule every time and hopefully you get to sit near your team. Ohh and my VP reviewed our attendance like we work in a call center. We were all professionals on salary and some are industry recognized SMEs.
