Pros

Certain times of year (especially holidays and shortly after) are very quiet. Very remote-work friendly/non-strict RTO policy

Cons

Impressively dysfunctional engineering culture. Much more talking about building software than actually producing it. You aren’t going to find real software engineering innovation or inspiring engineering leaders here if you already have some experience. Overall, it’s extremely difficult to build good software here. The engineering primitives and infrastructure that would make it possible to build interesting things quickly and reliably either doesn’t exist or is so minimally invested in that each project tends to need to whip together its own basics in the tiny window of time before the next “extremely important” project is shoved on a group’s plate by various independent areas of leadership that don't understand what’s taking so long.

Thank you for your thoughtful, candid review. We see feedback as a gift and a way to LI^2 (learn, iterate and innovate, one of our core values) on the employee experience. We are very disappointed to hear you have found your time at SoFi uninspiring. We feel our mission to help people achieve financial independence, and the impact our employees have on improving our members' lives is really inspiring. We see our annual and quarterly OKR process as a way for the company, and each organization, to set both long and short term goals. If you'd like to continue the conversation so we can work to improve your experience, I welcome an email at glassdoor@sofi.org. Thank you for being on this journey with us.

Pros

Pay and benefits were good. Co-workers were also great.

Cons

Lay-offs were heartless and unexpected. Should have not forced people to go back to the office and instead, they could have saved money by avoiding office space rentals and retaining their workforce. No one wanted to go back no matter how hard they try to convince staff that "some" did.

Thank you for taking the time to share a review of your experience - we're very sorry to hear working at SoFi didn't meet your expectations. The last thing we want is for any of our employees to feel that they were not valued or respected during the very difficult decision we had to make as a company in January. Regarding return to office, we see value in bringing our employees together. Compared to other companies, we feel our return to office policy is quite flexible and less structured (for example, we do not ask leaders or managers to track attendance), and that is intentional and ties to our overall flexible approach to work. While each business unit has a slightly different approach, in general we are asking employees to come into the office 4 times a month. We thank you for your feedback and contributions to SoFi. Good luck in your next endeavor.

Pros

Great colleagues who understand cause we’re all in the same boat. Medical benefits are exceptional

Cons

Company takes advantage of their management teams, doing the leg work for upper leader’s OKRs while they take the credit and you get told you could’ve worked harder before getting laid off due to “budget” by the people you did the work for. Senior Leadership is full of liars. Company was told no layoffs were on the horizon two months before entire positions were wiped out with no notice or warning. All the call center roles are being moved for cheaper labor overseas in Philippines. India, and Latin America. This role probably won’t exist in year.

Hi there, thank you for your feedback and commitment to SoFi over the past few years. We know that building a world's best company starts with inspiring, world-class leaders. We're sorry to hear your experience with senior leadership fell short of your expectations. The recent small reduction in force was an extremely difficult decision for us, and our CEO and leadership team have taken steps to be transparent about why the decision was made; for example, talking through the decision in a recent all-company meeting and giving employees the chance to ask questions. While we are moving a percentage of jobs overseas, we are committed to ensuring that this does not take away from the member experience. The movement of these positions will allow us to further invest in scaling our processes and technologies to help more people achieve financial independence, and it will allow us to create better work schedules for our front-line Operations employees. This is not uncommon for these type of roles in the industry. Thank you again for sharing your feedback, and we wish you the best in your next career endeavor. Take care.
