Pros

Benefits, pay, conveniently located downtown

Cons

Impossible expectations. Horrendous workloads. Terrible morale. Nasty environment. Case third assignment is nine cases per day. Director enforces policy that examiners take cases even when they are on official leave. Better name for this office is office of quantity review not office of quality review because quality has nothing to do with what it's done here. The morale seems to be deteriorating agency-wide but there are some people that were happy with their jobs until they transferred to Kansas City and wanted to leave. I'm told Kansas City is the office to stay away from not just OQR

Pros

Benefits are pretty much the only good thing about the job. If the job wasn’t as micromanaged as it is, it wouldn’t be so stressful.

Cons

The whole CSR job is extremely micromanaged. Every call you take is recorded and management reviews some calls you take almost weekly. You have a 30 min lunch break as well as a 15 min break in the morning around 10am and another 15 min break around 2pm. If you know nothing about SSA benefits, the learning curve can be very steep specially during COVID-19 and working from home. The job becomes a routine and extremely repetitive. Being 8hrs in front of a computer with a headset on every day isn’t very thrilling to say the least.

Pros

Federal Government Benefits Job security Supported agency of the average person Upper management in my particular office was very kind and understanding. Lots of ability to move around in otheer sectors of federal government

Cons

Tough training (lots of form and rules that have to be memorized) Sometimes morally difficult to follow regulations (sometimes had to take away disability benefits) Treated as just another government drone and not a real person by the public. Pay is low compared to what you need to learn in training Dull work environment
