      Very slow career advancement, not enough job openings and the few job vacancies are already reserved for someone already in waiting

      Pros

      Very good job security, once you have the job you will never have to worry about losing it.

      Cons

      Try to not stick out, hard work or efficiency is not a virtue with SSA. The culture is very happy with the pace that they currently work and the lengthy breaks that they are permitted to take. If you're looking to just go to work, punch your time card, and go home then this is a good job for you. If you're looking to make a difference or help people then you will find this job very frustrating.

      Flexible schedule, benefits, and leave.

      Cons

      Lack of opportunity advancement. CSR position is capped at the GS-8 grade and there are not many growth opportunities within the position. Most CSR's are trying to become Claims Representative because the pay is better and there are growth opportunities such as leadership development etc. Internal promotion will take time, depending of your field office, more than likely will hire off the street that promote internally.
