Pros

I can honestly say that not a day goes by that I am not proud to be with this company. The individuals in this organization at every level - colleagues, managers, executives - are friendly and knowledgeable. Having been with SofterWare for a little under a year, I was incredibly impressed with the learning opportunities made available to new employees - and that's in addition to the standard onboarding program. Professional development is highly encouraged, and the opportunities for advancement are plentiful. It is a great organization for individuals who enjoy working on a variety of projects in a highly collaborative environment.

Cons

The training program for new employees has evolved substantially (for the better), even in the past six months. As a result, I find that newer employees have a more thorough understanding of other departments within the organization (and subsequently, the product). It would be nice to see an initiative where all employees, regardless of tenure, have the opportunity to learn more about departmental processes outside of their own.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. Every employer hopes everyone who works at their business will say they’re proud to be there, so to read that is truly awesome - thank you! We are hopeful with the creation of our new Training and Professional Development Manager position, that you have seen improvement with ongoing training for our staff. We also hope that this continues to improve the internal collaboration throughout SofterWare, and enables more teamwork within our departments! Thank you! Kathy

Always Growing

Pros

This place is a growing company. Plenty of opportunities to expand your role in the organization. A steady inflow of new employees with very few leaving for new opportunities. The relaxed office environment makes it easy to communicate your ideas to your coworkers as well as upper management.

Cons

A bit of a cube-farm. The introduction was very surface level, I would have hoped for more of an in depth look at their product lines and what each department does within that product line.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience, as we are always listening. After 36 years, we are continuing to grow, and we owe the success to our wonderful team here! We strive to create a culture that is welcoming to our staff, and promotes teamwork. With the recent option of standing desks, as well as the use of the treadmill work station (a must see for employee interviews!), we’re hopeful this allows the freedom for our staff to create a comfortable work environment for themselves. We understand that while the cubes allow some privacy, they can sometimes seem impersonal. The flip side is our relaxed decoration policy has inspired some very talented interior designers to show their stuff - especially during the holiday season! Some of them are true homes away from home! We truly value the insight our new employees provide in their journal, and we apologize your feedback was not addressed. The on boarding process is constantly evolving as a result of the suggestions we receive from our staff. We hope our company wide Second Friday employee meetings provide you with additional departmental information. You can learn about the vision of our various product lines by reading the road maps available to all employees. Thank you again! Kathy

Good company that listens to its employees

Pros

Company management listens to its employees through surveys, suggestion boxes, open door policies, etc. While I've worked for many company that had the same facade, SofterWare actually reads and acts on the suggestions. Employees work closely with management and typically understand with decisions and are in agreement with each other. The company also prides itself on being family friendly and they stick to this. Work/Life balance is fantastic. That's not to say that there aren't times were deadlines aren't the priority, but excessive long hours are not the norm. When my child had something going on at school I was able to attend. Need to spend a day at home because of deliveries/sick child and it's not a problem.

Cons

The biggest problem was historically low salaries. When I joined I failed to negotiate appropriately and believe I'm significantly underpaid (don't we all!). I try to conservatively match my role to salary.com and confirmed my belief. Recent hires appear to be more inline with what I'm seeing online so my personal situation may be my own issue.

As you know feedback in all forms is extremely important to us, and we appreciate the time you have taken to share your experience. In addition to your salary, there are number of other components to your total compensation. We reward our employees for company and individual performance through our incentive program. The incentive is paid on a quarterly basis or you can opt to receive an advanced portion in your semi monthly pay. We believe that every employee contributes to our success and we recognize that through our profit sharing plan. We also have a match for employee contributions to 401K. Our goal is to provide our employees with a rewarding total compensation and benefits package. As a result of our surveys, we’ve formed employee committees to address concerns, including salary and benefits. As a result, we’ve given employees an opportunity to get their bonuses each paycheck, to get a portion of their profit-sharing paid now rather than their 401K, changed our paid time off to make it easier to get the days you need without a reason, and began benchmarking salaries against industry norms so as the company does better, our excellent staff can earn more! Thank you! Kathy
