Ironic that a mental health company treats their employees so poorly

Pros

- The majority of non-managerial colleagues are incredibly dedicated, kind, mission-driven, and hard-working individuals. - A lot of the projects you work on are interesting. - Good compensation and benefits. - Generous unlimited PTO policy and a generally healthy work/life balance.

Cons

- Lack of job security and psychological safety: There is little sense of stability within the organization, and layoffs seem to occur without regard to individual performance. I survived a few rounds of layoffs and my manager blatantly lied saying that I was safe, but inevitably I was also laid off. - Promotions are dangerous: This is not a healthy environment to grow your career. In many cases, I saw employees who had recently been promoted getting replaced by new lower-paid staff. - Leadership and management challenges: As you move up the management ladder, there seems to be a growing disconnect from the core values of the company. The frequent shifts in project priorities and constant turnover in staff indicate a lack of long-term strategic planning. The financial and operational impact of this turnover is significant—hiring and onboarding new employees comes with high costs, both in terms of time and resources, while also losing valuable institutional knowledge and product experience. Leadership is getting in their own way of success with consistently poor management decisions.

Pros

Good benefits- mental health care copays totally covered. Decent equity if you are hired as a manager or above and stay for a year. Really smart and dedicated co-workers

Cons

Senior leadership preaches a lot about mental health and work-life balance and how valuable it is for clients, but doesn't actually support that for full-time staff in practice. Lots of hustle culture mentality and often times little direction or established process from senior leaders. Senior leaders can be cutthroat in their mentality about performance. You will almost definitely work more than 40 hours if you want to be successful. They preach a lot about "bucket worthiness" which basically means fill a hole if you see it, which glorifies people doing work outside of their assigned role and paygrade, and honestly it doesn't really happen in practice anyway- balls get dropped all the time because there is not a lot of clarity about role and team differentiation/ownership of projects and processes. They acquired a new company and then 2~months later laid off 15% of their staff-poor planning on senior leaders' part.

Pros

free therapy and 401(k) matching

Cons

Overall folks love their managers, and managers really go to bat for their reports, but they are largely powerless. In spite of doing well financially and more than meeting financial goals, bonuses were taken away, raises are insultingly low, compensation is below market, and they still are not spending any real effort on retaining talent and domain knowledge. Company hired a bunch of agile professionals and now seems to be largely ignoring them and inventing new ways of disguising waterfall. Morale is very low in engineering, maybe in other departments too. Hard to financially justify staying when you can make at least 30k more elsewhere and probably get bonuses on top of it.
