Pros

Groups of smart and dedicate employees. Flexible work hours and ability to work remote. Very dependent on your manager and where you are in the organization.

Cons

Engineering management fosters an environment of fear and intimidation where unquestioning loyalty is the primary requirement for success. Employees are encouraged to criticize and undermine one another to get ahead. Projects are micro managed by leaders that are inexperienced and changing requirements lead to delays and low moral. There is a lot of ego and lack of trust and empathy creating a toxic environment that puts the productivity and health of the company at risk. Many employees are hoping for a quick sale of the company and a change in management.

Going down hill fast...

Pros

All the pro's of working at SonicWall have diminished...

Cons

Work life balance is gone. Inside sales teams are burnt out while outside sales teams struggle to hit their outrageous quotas and have lost all motivation. Sales Club was cancelled and they are laying off people weekly. The inside sales team use to work from home twice a week and have motivating contests to drive business but now it is nothing but depression and lack of motivation. Times were good and quotas were obtainable but ever since the purchase of SonicWall by Francisco partners things have continued to go down hill. It seems as though they purposefully make quotas unattainable to better their bottom line. The CEO of the company and other leadership continue to berate the sales team. In fact, one Sales Club the CEO scolded everyone and told them you better be selling or you are gone... the best of the best in sales, invited out to vacation in Mexico, being told they better sell or be fired with countless expletives. Good hard workers are fleeing the company and the inept are skating by. The only light to the leadership, Steve Pataky, is gone although Bob VanKirk has seemed to take over the good cop role in his absence. It's nice to have someone who seems to care about the employees... Development of products is rushed to market with high expectations for sales. Unfortunately every sale turns sour and the products quickly gain a "reputation". The products have very simple errors that should have been found in QA testing but weren't. This either points to lack luster Dev talent or the pressure to launch unfinished products. This mentality only makes it more difficult to make sales and hit numbers.

Frequent stealthy layoffs

Pros

Nice colleagues. Sonicwall has some potential to grow, but lacks investment in employees or long-term product development.

Cons

Execs are not trustworthy, saying how business is great, but then conducts stealthy layoffs so that someone you know disappears every few weeks – no announcements are made. You just find an empty cubical one day. Low morale, especially after CEO visits the office.
