BEWARE: Layoffs, Furloughs, and Nearshore replacement agenda

Pros

Lots of hard working unfairly people caught in a volatile company.

Cons

Sparq's new agenda is to replace American workers with a large percentage of nearshore workers to lower their hourly rate. The reason they are doing this is because they are incapable of portraying value when attempting to sell services. In the last two years, they have openly admitted in Town Hall meetings that their Sales Team hasn't done the best job in selling programming services and design services. The CEO and Senior Leadership are ruining a company of hard working people, because they lack the professional skills necessary to properly express value and sell services. The primary problem is not the workers, the problem is the CEO and Senior staff need to all be removed. A real business savvy CEO could turn this company around in a single day. Sparq puts on a good show of acting like they truly care about their workers, but they don't care at all. They average two layoff rounds a year and if you happen to get unlucky and are sitting on the bench (a waiting period between assigned clients) they will let you go and it won't even matter how long and how loyal you have been to them. I've seen and experienced this first hand. If you work here, you will be taking the huge risk of eventually being let go. I've seen so many great people let go for no reason at all. It makes no sense to me what they are doing.

No longer a good place to work

Pros

Good for large companies looking to hire cheap labor done by people who are increasingly being outsourced south of the border (non US citizens).

Cons

I preface this with clarification that I was not laid off or fired so this is not a disgruntled employee who was forced out. I left because I saw the writing on the wall. - Cares more about money than people. - Is currently in the process of laying off many (most?) US developers and replacing them with foreign/cheaper replacements. They then market this as "near shoring", because it’s technically not over seas. - There is little chance of you working on something that you enjoy and if you complain, you’ll be on the chopping block. - Being "put on the bench" is an almost guaranteed layoff. - Leadership is dishonest about the direction of the company. They hold town halls where they talk about how well the company is doing but then lay off 10+ year loyal employees within the same week. - Strings developers along to keep them at the company long enough to fulfill contracts and then lays said employees off.

Constant Changes, No Focus on Employee Wellbeing or Growth

Pros

Remote work environment with some friendly and supportive colleagues.

Cons

Sparq is not the place for anyone seeking stability or a company that values its employees. The company is more focused on rapid business growth and acquisitions than on its people, and it shows in the lackluster benefits and constant changes. They've made it clear that even employees with tenure are not safe. Yearly raises and bonuses have been put on hold as the company prioritizes acquisitions over valuing or caring for its current employees, leaving the culture practically nonexistent. Leadership meetings are not transparent and often provide runaround answers, further eroding trust. Instead of fostering a healthy work environment, they prioritize buying more companies. If you're looking for a company that truly cares about employee wellbeing, this isn't it.
