Pros

Scheduled weekends off (but you will have to work them if you don't want your store to fall apart while your gone). Good benefits, adequate pay

Cons

Where do I start? Mandatory 50 hour work week but in reality you will work anywhere from 60 to 70 hours a week since you are not provided enough labor hours. You are on call 24/7 and WILL be called at 3AM on a Saturday morning for trivial things. Unmotivated co-workers , but honestly I can't blame them when the company will only offer them minimum wage and 15 hours a week with no breaks or lunches during their shift. No employee discount on anything the store sells, not even food or drinks. Unrealistic expectations from DIstrict Managers (Run a $30K a day store open 24/7 on 225 Labor hours and you count as 50 of that 225). Impossible to retain good employees since pay/benefits for entry level CSRs are deplorable. This leads to a continual revolving door of employees. Impossible to complete the work expected on the Daily task worksheet with the hours provided.

Pros

Work hard, be honest, logical with long term career in mind and sky is the limit. Not the most glamorous job, Speedway is owned by Marathon Petroleum. They work employees very hard, but it is very easy to climb the ladder with a good attitude and good work ethic. Speedway values honesty and integrity as well and is open minded to suggestions on how to continually improve their business. Store managers have autonomy and it is very rewarding managing a multi-million dollar business with 10+ employees.

Cons

Being a store manager is alot of responsibility of being on call 24/7. But the good managers develop a team of other managers (shift leaders/co managers) who help share the burden of running a fast paced, high volume c-store.
