Oh, where do I even begin? If you ever want to see your family, just don't plan on it. There is zero work-life balance. Get hired at a store close to your house? Good for you. They like shuffling management around like it is musical chairs so don't get comfortable. A majority of your days off you will sit wondering whether or not you will get called into work because of call-outs, so good luck having a life outside of that place. Since you're in a gas station, customers will treat you like you are swine in a pigsty and will even decorate the bathrooms and perimeter of the building to help you feel at home.
Maybe my experience was jaded because I was cursed with literally two of the most unintelligent and lazy general managers in the entire company, but even the higher ups don't give a damn about anything but hours and MLCB. Forget your personal life. You are nothing but an employee ID and a body to fill a shift.
Also, unless you have a college degree, don't bother thinking about advancing past general manager without a degree. Which is itself stunning because almost everyone I dealt with in upper management (especially support/marketing) was...well.
