Pros

Other than the decent benefits and six paid holidays which are double time this company has no pros.

Cons

Senior regional management has seriously lost touch with being out in the field. Complains about maintenance costs and limiting amount spent on repairs then complains about equipment not functioning properly. Does not allow us to alter or reduce orders for product on sales floor then complains about worrying off out of date product. Is too focused on speedy rewards to the point that they terminate long standing knowledgeable hard working employees due to a low scan rate. More worried about scan rays and suggestive selling to a point where many customer get fed up with all the questions we are required to ask them during each transaction. Company constantly does what ever it can to ensure employees do not get bonus money. Store level management taken advantage of constantly. Low pay long hours. Stores always improperly staffed I have two jobs Speedway which my store takes in 50, 000 on a good day and only allows for two employees the morning two in the evening and one over night. My second job takes in 4000 a day is open only 18 he's a day and had usually 3 to 5 people there at all times. Speedway has between 1500 and 2000 transactions per day my other job between 100 and 200. I could keep going on but what's the point. My lady performance review was outstanding and said I was ready for promotion but they continue to hire people in off the street at lower pay rates and asks me to train them. When I tried calling in 20 minutes after my grandfather died I was told "you need to come in its not like you are buying him today" this is not the family oriented employee focused company it claims to be. I would never recommend this place as a prospective employer to any one.

Pros

If you enjoy getting verbally abused on a daily basis because the HR department hires morons than this is the job for you.

Cons

Training program is a joke. DM is always micromanaging and threatening your job because your 'candy bar sales are low.' Basically it's the most stressful job you will ever get under compensated for.

Pros

Great benefits. Nice upper management.

Cons

Training is a four-part, year-long process. You will shadow a General Manager, be a temp General Manager, shadow a District Manager, be a temp District Manager, and if all goes well- you will be placed in a district at the end of your training. Most likely, the person hiring you will tell you that you will stay in your desired region but you will have to be 100% relocatable. Don't be optimistic that you will stay in the region they promise. There aren't many districts but there are many LPP's. You do the math... I do not recommend this job if you are a bubbly, outgoing person. You will ALWAYS be on call which means your social life will suffer tremendously. You will be told you have nights, weekends, and holidays off but once you're in phase two of four (and the rest of your career with Speedway) this all goes out of the window. If you're like me, single with no children, you will be told you should work holidays and weekends because you "have no family". (Be advised of familial discrimination). I am a very optimistic person. I look for the good in every situation. I disregarded the cruel things people had to say about "gas station employees" (and despite my circumstances with this company, still defend them to this day). However, this job took so much of my energy and was a depressing first experience for work life after graduation. If you chose this career path, I wish you the best of luck. If you love it, I'm happy for you. If you hate it, I promise not every company is like this. Things will get better.
