Great Team Work, but Poor Management

Pros

Team work, RNs, PCAs, Environmental, Doctors, Residents- we all work together to get the job done, to provide the best care possible. Healthy/respectful PCA to RN and RN to MD relationships.

Cons

Limited resources. No pay raises. High turn over. Institutional debt. Catholic hospital- but no holiday pay for Catholic holidays (Easter, Good Friday). No room for growth and limited opportunities to advance. No union.

Pros

Welcoming, friendly staff. In my experience, the “nurses eat their young” doesn’t apply that heavily here. Then again, most of the nurses on med surg are young and haven’t developed that hunger yet.

Cons

Resources are not always adequate. It’s not an affluent hospital, so you don’t always have the best resources available. But you get used to it.
