Pros

Decent amount of training (In my store), before being allowed to touch any computers. Management is great about working around my class schedule, and giving people time off when they request it. The other employees are great, there is no drama at the store I work at, and we've made friends with each other outside of work.

Cons

Completely unreasonable goals. I had a goal for $600 in protection plans on a week when I worked less than 20 hours, because goals are set on previous years and selling ability, not how much time you will spend in the store that week. While there is opportunity for Easytech Associates to make a bonus, you have to be above 7% on both protection plan and Easytech services, and then a percentage of that is split between Easytech associates...but only if you're out of your 90 day "trial period". The district manager comes in on a semi-regular basis to berate employees about how we aren't earning her enough money, and then our direct managers are forced to crack down on these unreasonable goals we've been given. Cashiers are also reprimanded if they have less than 50% of their transactions with a rewards card. And to top it all off, if you sell a computer with less than a $100 "market basket", you're really in for it (the goal is a $180 basket). All in all, it's an environment that is filled with unreasonable expectations, especially if you're in a busier store.

Pros

The ability to work on computers and perhaps make someome smile when their computer is fixed, customer interaction, and a job.

Cons

I had the interview and then was set to come in and take the assessment test. I am an A+ certified technician with many years on the inside of a computer and per them, passed the their test. They offered me the job but told me the pay would be 7.70 p/h. During the interview I was all but told that the cleaning of a customer's computer is mainly removing the main infections. I took that to mean that Staples charges the customer full price for removing infections but not removing all of them but telling the customer their system is clean. The rate of pay is extremely low for a certified technician. I am not one to put a lot of weight in any certification as I myself have met a many of people that had the certs and didn't know their head from the hole in the ground. I also noted in the interview Staples seems to care more about selling than actual computer repair as that is what I heard most of during the interview.

Pros

weekly pay is about the only benefit of this job. Getting a check every week is good if you have bills that you need to pay right away

Cons

hours are always cut, there is no real advancement just lucky placement, Half the people there dont know what they are talking about and those who do are consistantly bombarded with questions. The pay sucks for what they expect you to do.
