Pros
If you're good on the Sales front, you will do well and be promoted quickly. I went from Sales Associate to manager within a matter of months. You get a lot of product knowledge from the various vendors that come in as well, not to mention the hands on experience you get from working in the Copy Center and EasyTech Department. Networking is also a big opportunity here since a lot of clientele come from small to big businesses. I've known a few people who have gotten job offers right in the store.
Cons
Not the best job for hours/pay when you are part-time, even worse if you cannot sell. I've seen people go from 15-24 hours a week to 3-7 because of poor performance. Full-Time employees are more or less asked to put their lives on hold as well, my manager couldn't work around my school schedule and made me decide between the two stating "Sacrifices had to be made if I wanted to make it with Staples." There is a major disconnect between store associates/supervisors and the District Leader in the West Coast. It doesn't have the family feel that the East side of the rock had, and the sales numbers show that.
