Pros

The environment is friendly, open and upbeat; there is not really the cut-throat competitiveness you would find with other large companies. Also, Staples is very eco concious and does a lot to give back to the community through various events and fundraisers. The fact that Staples is an industry leader and a Fortune 500 company offers a solid impression on any resume.

Cons

One major downside is the difficulty in getting promoted, as Staples tends to hire from outside (presumably to offer lower starting salaries, thereby saving the company money). My own research has revealed that Staples also does not offer competitive pay. Although the benefits are reasonable, they could stand to offer more vacation time and time off during inclement weather. Additionally, I feel I am forced to take on outside responsibilities that are beyond the scope of my position (and for which I am not getting paid). This is due to poor management and lack of accountability on certain areas of the company (ie- Merchandising).

Pros

I love helping customers and seeing the gratitute they show to you. They offer part-time benefits to the assocaites and also college tutition help for the young kids. Some District Managers knows exactly how to deal and treat people others need alot of iprovement with people skills. Before this last year there was great opportunity for growth but now there is little to none.

Cons

HR is not really there to help support you when you need it. All over helping the associate but not helping management. Pay scale was not fair....a year of promotions we greatly overpaid so the next set of promotions got the shaft. Before this last year there was great opportunity for growth but now there is little to none.

Pros

It is a very friendly work enviroment that is low pressure while the management still makes sure your doing your job. There is great oppurtunity for bonuses if your in the Easy Tech section. Learning and training isn't too daunting as the stores are not as big as Best Buy. The company is great at recognizing when you get complemented by guest or go above and beyong your norm by issueing "I Noticed" cards. All associates are welcomed to participate in the issueing of cards.

Cons

Raises are low unless your getting promoted. There is never enough people working, especially in the tech department when computers start to pile up to be worked on.
