Pros

Beautiful work environment, decent benefits, fair pay.

Cons

After a certain point, around senior middle managers, there is no control over their behavior. Swearing at employees, racial slurs, extreme sexism and misogynistic commentary, hiding work errors by blaming them on subordinates, expectations that you work extra to get work done but severely chastising those who "can't get the job done" during work hours, etc. Refusal to change with technological advancement or standard work processes. Stuck in an 80's "boiler room" mentality.

Pros

The only pro I could possibly consider writing about this place is that I met some nice people while I was there. Anybody that had been there longer than 4 months looked like they had the life sucked from their bodies. But they were friendly, courteous, and caring people outside of work and deserved to be treated better than the crippling micro-management condition this dead end job entails.

Cons

The first thing you'll probably notice is that the level of nepotism at this place is pretty absurd. If you aren't a family member (or a very close friend of a family member) of one of the owners you are going to have a next to impossible time trying to get ahead and make any sort of decent money at this place. As a business development person (aka "Ninja Sales Apprentice") you are the lowest of the low. There is so much politics running rampant through this office that you'll never know when or if you'll get promoted to a sales position. I only mention this because I honestly feel that no one would ever consider applying for this position without the hope of being "promoted" to sales. Which is obviously why the "benefits" described in the business development job description are more closely related to a sales person (while still being outlandishly misleading) and not business development. Not that a sales position at StormWind is any grand prize either, it's rather horrible. You will be micro-managed in every feasible way and given highly unrealistic expectations. The place is operated like a sweatshop; I've literally seen people crying at their desks... The pay is almost insultingly low and anything you read in their capriciously deceitful job description should be thrown out the window. - "where you can expect to make $100K-$250k+...yes, really" This is so wrong and misleading that it's almost funny. 98% of their sales team will be lucky to make an extra few thousand in commission over the year on top of the ridiculously low base salary you'll be talked into after being fed this pipe dream. And that's for the sales people, not the business development people where this job description quote was pulled from! You'll make $32k or less in business development and make 1% (yes, 1%) commission on whatever appointments you set for your sales person that you'll have absolutely no control over on whether they turn into business or not. In order to make $250k that means the appointments you set for your sales people will have to close nearly $22million in new business. A bit misleading? Yeah, I think you get the picture. - "Forget all the cheap imitators that claim to be a "top place to work" only to find high turnover, broken promises, unprofessional micro-management, and lousy pay". This basically describes StormWind perfectly. If you are professional and experienced in sales keep on looking. Your talents will be much more appreciated elsewhere. Their product is technically just an overpriced online DVD as their courses run live maybe once a year and it's incredibly difficult to stay enthused selling such a product. What you're selling is the "LIVE" aspect and what you're asking people to spend a huge premium on. It's incredibly deceitful...

I'm very sorry to hear about his experience here at StormWind. As one of the leaders here, it's always a disappointment to hear when a fellow team member is not happy nor achieves the goals they set out to accomplish when they started with us. Every new relationship and new team member we invite to join on our StormWind mission begins with endless promise and potential...on both sides. Sadly, when you don't achieve even basic entry level productivity standards week in and week out, I would think it's understandable when an organization asks you to leave. When that same organization goes out of its way to support an employee who requests extraordinary time-off, gas money, special equipment, and even accommodates him with an opportunity to take a step down out of sales and into a less stressful qualifying role and yet he still feels the need to write this bitter review after leaving, it certainly is disappointing. Let me say that this his negative description and reckless comments are just silly. I sadly think this is a reflection of his own true impression of himself vs the reality of how we value and treat our team here at StormWind. I think most intelligent folks understand that it is a two way street; There is an understood quid pro quo in what we both expect as employer and team member. At StormWind, we make no secret we want a 1+1 = 3 type of relationship. That only happens with high expectations and a high degree of performance from both parties. We have an extensive interview and assessment process. When we sit across from a candidate, that candidate is committing to excellence. So are we. We are committing to support and guide them. We are "sold" on them by their experience, their attitude, and their goals. Like the unfortunate comments above, we too don't want to be disappointed especially when a candidate's sales potential instead turns into a bust and a financial loss as it clearly did here. Regarding the other unfortunate and disparaging comments about our team, let me say this starting with our senior leadership: Our team started 4 companies from scratch. One went public and was sold for $225MM, another started from scratch and was sold for $105MM, another was started from scratch and sold for $323MM, and currently StormWind started from scratch and now shares the same world class investors and board guidance such as Insight, Twitter, Lyft, and Spotify, among others. In other words, I think we know what we are doing. At the sales leadership level, every single one of our leaders started on the phones... just like all of our new team members who join the family. Because of that, we know the duties. We know the challenges. We know the ups and downs of sales. We know the grind and grit and tedium of dialing. All of our sales leaders succeeded over time with not just great numbers, but great attitudes, great camaraderie, great humility, great vision, and most importantly, big, hairy, and audacious goals...regardless of whose family and friends they are. These libelous remarks on nepotism insults the performance and hard work of all the top folks who've achieved greatness here. Tactically, we make no bones about the fact that you, as a sales professional, are entrusting your career, your livelihood, your family, your dreams to us. We do not take that trust lightly. We often claim that it's our job to care and "own" your income when you don't feel like it. Many folks can not or do not want that fierce level of accountability. They would rather drift aimlessly in the calm and lukewarm waters of mediocrity with no accountability in anything they do in life. I would humbly then say that StormWind is not for you. We do not create mere $60K/year telesales reps at our organization. Rather, we try to create and foster $150-300K/year top tier Sales Professionals and that takes time, tenacity, communication, patience, an unbridled love of your craft, and most of all humility. You simply can not expect to come into any sales organization and reach the mountaintop in mere months. You also can not claim you have one year of experience with us when really all you have is "1 month 12 times." We are unequivocally blunt and candid about what it takes to succeed here and what the career ladder looks like. We even require all of our candidates to do their own due diligence on StormWind and its leaders after the interview process ends so they have a "cooling off period" from the initial "honeymoon" of an interview cycle. We think that's important in order to think carefully about whether we are a cultural, compensation, and leadership fit. If not, we will simply shake hands and part as friends. We are not the home for everyone nor do we desire to be. Do we work hard? Of course. Do we know that B2B sales is difficult? Of course we do. You'll always know where you stand and where we stand as a driven organization. You'll also always know that we are in your corner to help.

Pros

Long hours, minimal pay, free style coke machine and free granola bars.

Cons

If you are into attending Amway meetings daily this is the place for you. Smoke and mirrors does not accurately describe the load of BS that is served up by an inadequate management staff with little real world experience. I would get into the office at 5:30 am and leave at dark. Making 200 plus cold calls while training Business Development employees all the wile trying to close deals. Upper management rewards mediocrity and the nepotism is rampant. My biggest disappointment is that they sold me a bill of goods that were empty and I was to stupid to not leave sooner. The promise of a six figure income in not relevant unless you are asked to sit at the "cool" table. If you are a seasoned sales veteran take your talents elsewhere...this place is a joke.

Wow...I'm very sorry to hear about his experience here at StormWind. As one of the leaders here, we had less than 4 months to work with him and we wish he would have stuck it out a little longer because he does really have some great sales potential. However, I'll try to be clear and candid as possible as I respond to these unfortunate remarks from this ex team member. These remarks were made anonymously and it's disappointing because well over 100+ hard working team members at StormWind put their own name out there everyday on the phones, in emails, on LinkedIn, teaching our classes, and supporting our wonderful clients. We do not hide behind the anonymity of the web, but rather shout from the virtual rooftops about the individual and collective pride we have in helping change an entire category like IT training and guiding so many folks as they rise in their IT career. This has been a constant in our over 23 years in the technology business. Tactically, we make no bones about the fact that perhaps you, as a new sales professional, are entrusting your career, your livelihood, your family, your dreams to us. We do not take that trust lightly. We often claim that it's our job to care about your income when you don't feel like it. Many folks can not or do not want that level of communication or accountability. I would humbly then say that StormWind is not for you. Rather, we try to create and foster $150-300K/year top tier Sales Professionals and that takes time, tenacity, unbridled communication, patience, a love of your craft, and, most of all humilty. You simply can not expect to come into any sales organization and reach the mountaintop in 16 weeks. We cover this in every exhaustive and comprehensive interview process we initiate. We are unequivocally blunt and candid about what it takes to succeed here and what the career ladder looks like. We even require all of our candidates to do their own due diligence on StormWind and its leaders after the interview process ends so they have a "cooling off period" from the initial "honeymoon" of a interview cycle. We think that's important in order to think carefully about whether we are a cultural, compensation, and leadership fit. If not, we will simply shake hands and part as friends. We are not the home for everyone. Do we work hard? Of course. Do we know that B2B sales is difficult? Of course we do. However, I guess calling our meetings "Amway-like" is really a compliment to us. You'll always know where you stand and where we stand as company. You'll always know that we are in your corner to help. And, you'll always know that sales is more mental than it is skill. Any motivational or inspirational advantage we can provide to lift up our team is expected. Additionally, I'm not sure what "over-selling a dream" even means with regard to the comment above. At StormWind we promise that the journey will be difficult but the reward will indeed be great. Sales is a profession where it is far too easy to be mediocre. Without goals, accountability, and guidance, you have a job. At StormWind, we humbly try to provide you with a career. A career to be proud of. A career where you look back and are awed at just how much you've accomplished because of your massive dreams. Plus, do you really want to spend your time and sweat and years work for a company that promises "massive mediocrity (as I think he is somehow suggesting here)?" Not me. Lastly, regarding the unfortunate and disparaging comments about our leadership team, let me say this starting with our senior leadership: Our team started four companies from scratch. One went public and was sold to Computer Associates for $225MM, another started from scratch and was sold to Thomson Reuters for $105MM, another was started from scratch and sold to Experian for $323MM, and, currently, StormWind, too, started from scratch and now shares the same world class investors and board guidance as organizations such as Insight, Twitter, Lyft, and Spotify among others. All of our sales leaders succeeded over time with not just great numbers, but great attitudes, great camaraderie, great humility, great vision, and most importantly, big, harry, and audacious goals. As a leader at StormWind, I genuinely welcome constructive and specific feedback on what we can do to continue to make our home the right home for all who enter our doors. See you at the top!
