Toxic Environment and Poor Management

Pros

Some friendly coworkers who try to make the best of a bad situation. Occasionally, there are free snacks in the break room.

Cons

-Abysmal Management: The leadership team is completely out of touch with the employees and has no idea how to manage people or projects effectively. They make arbitrary decisions without consulting the staff, leading to constant confusion and frustration. -Lack of Communication: Important information is either not shared with the team or is shared at the last minute, causing unnecessary stress and chaos. There's a complete lack of transparency, making it difficult to trust the leadership. -Toxic Work Environment: The culture here is incredibly negative, with constant blame-shifting and finger-pointing. Morale is at an all-time low, and there is zero effort from management to improve it. -No Career Growth: There are no opportunities for professional development or career advancement. The company does not invest in its employees or provide any meaningful training. -Overworked and Underappreciated: Employees are expected to work long hours with little to no recognition or appreciation. Burnout is rampant, and there's no support for work-life balance.

Pros

Benefits and pay were good and on par with other schools in the area. Location was good for public transport or driving

Cons

they were doing a self evaluation for racism. unrealistic expectations for staff, and students. My classroom would probably be considered a health code violation.

High Stress but Good Perks

Pros

Pay increases per degree and year of experience. Good benefits. As a teacher -- summers and holidays off automatically. 3-4 times a year, Summit conducts Expeditions, which are 1-2 week periods when students take elective courses from visiting teachers and their regular teachers get PD and work time. February PD -- 1 week of paid online professional development from home

Cons

The Summit Learning Platform is extremely non-user-friendly and difficult to work with. No accountability for students in this system (no real due dates, endless retries) makes it hard to hold them accountable. Students are passed through grades without proving mastery of required standards, just to make room for more students in order to meet data quotas. Diversity training experience actually seemed to cause stress and alienate people from one another culturally. Lip service to work-life balance, and very clear that you're not expected to work outside of paid hours, but in actuality there's no way to complete all your required work during paid hours. Recent changes within higher management causing stressful reviews and constant observation, which doesn't actually improve education or the experience of students and teachers. Vague or inconsistent instructions -- sudden new expectations and rules are treated like they were always in place and it's the teacher's fault for not knowing that (when actually the training was very different) A lot of lip service to good culture and values, but in the end, the bottom line is data to show the higher ups in order to get money.
