Pros

Great name recognition in the southeast, respected company. SunTrust has a fantastic footprint within the southeast United States. Fair compensation and benefits package. Good place to start your career in the banking / financial industry.

Cons

Business units operate within silos. Slow, plodding operation, not "with the times" in product development. It is a great place to start, but you will eventually get tired of the company culture. The company culture is very laid back, slow to react to trends within the financial sector.

Pros

Great place to start and learn the basics. The training is extremely helpful and allows you to learn the business and the trade. It takes some time once you learn the basics to advance to higher areas in the institution because of the lack of positions available and also the assistance and help of the immediate management in your personal achievement and adavancement. SunTrust is a very conservative bank, so the job outlook is strong, but the pay is definitely not what the market and competeitive industries are working with. I'm happy because I've learned a greeat deal about the industry as a whole but am looking elsewhere for advancement opportuinites.

Cons

Not much room for advancement and the pay isn't competitive across the industry. The average time required in a position with a financial industry is 6 months where SunTrust places a committment of one year in a position where you may not be as happy as you thought you were. They merit increases do not keep up with the cost of inflation on a yearly basis and the bottom line is the sales that you complete, not the customer satisfaction. There is more emphasis on what can you do for SunTrust as opposed to what can Suntrust do for me?

Pros

Good vacation (4 weeks) and paid holidays (5). You are allowed to work on your own and make decisions (as long as you make the right decisions). Limited work (2 days a week) for home policy.

Cons

High turn over which makes the jobs of those who say harder. Many jobs have been cut over the last 5 years, many times people with lesser experience (and cheaper) are later brought in. 50% of IT jobs, in the last 2 years, have been been sent to India. Management depends on service tickets and time sheets to judge how people are doing and have very little involvement in day to day issues.
