Pros

What SunTrust stands for I truly believe in. They give back to the community and I like their core values. The hiring process was easy. I enjoyed working with non-management because everyone who wasn’t a manager was down to earth. If you stick with it there are great opportunities for growth but that’s with any retail bank. I would suggest working at any other bank but this one.

Cons

Upper management is horrible in this region. Very out of touch with what it’s like in the day to day process of retail banking. They would expect unrealistic goals and give unrealistic advice on how to reach those goals. Upper management would stress out branch managers with these goals which would in turn make the branch managers just as unpleasant to work with. This is evident in the turnover rate, within my first 3 weeks working at SunTrust 2 people WALKED OUT of work and 2 more were fired for “sales related” issues.

Pros

Pay and work life balance

Cons

Management sucks!!!! Area managers don't allow the branch managers to hire their own tellers and bankers, they'll just put someone in your store without allowing the branch manager to interview or even meet the person. Branch managers hog all of the walk ins and give the bankers all of the service. Suntrust sale goals are ridiculous, if they don't stop they will end up like Wells Fargo. Suntrust like to say "how can we help change our client lives" just to stay away from saying "how many accounts did you open, how many loans did you process", if you don't close on a loan or open a new household account you didn't change a life. Suntrust don't care about their clients unless it's something in it for them. Area managers are even worst than Branch managers, if your numbers aren't in platinum or gold status you will not get promoted, no matter how good of a worker you are. Area managers only look at numbers!!!! One last thing, if your branch manager don't like you they'll write negative things about you in workday so other managers can see it, so that being said if you try to post out other managers can always see what your current manager said about you.

Pros

Some of the best commercial bankers out there. Excellent credit philosophy and spirit to get things done. Everyone has a high degree of confidence in their work, and is usually top-notch. And, an incredible amount of potential untapped talent.

Cons

Influx of new upper management, sourced from Accenture and other consulting firms, has led to a lack of consistent direction and purpose. Everyone is on their own with few true allegiances or partnerships within the bank. Unfortunately, disruption without real, longview purpose. "Back to the silos!"
