The commission is taxed at 40%, so what looks good on paper is not something that one can live on. Also, there are hardly any sales now, so it’s essentially a minimum wage job. The position was advertised as $28/hour. It’s not. It never was. The pay is $16.50 and non-negotiable. There are no raises. We have to pay for or earn our uniforms. We’re required to work on our days off. We stand for a minimum of eight hours a day pitching to people. When and if someone schedules an appointment with us, the sales person may or may not show up. The sales person may or may not have enough talent to actually sell solar, which is a no-brainer in our area. The sales consultant may lie on the paperwork and say that he or she went to the appointment when the person actually did not. The sales consultant might write down that the customer canceled when in actuality, the sales person never showed up and the potential customer who signed up with us resents us, even though we are not the ones who let them down. Our commission relies 100% on the sales people. I am working more than 40 hours a week and cannot even pay the rent. And that is just the rent. There have been the raises there is no other position that will pay more. We are clearly undervalued and underpaid. The talented people are leaving because the situation is untenable. The company is making money. We care about the customers and the customers have wonderful relationships with us. But I can no longer live off of my savings while working a full-time job. I only have enough money in the bank for two more months. The situation is due to the choice of the people who run this wonderful company , and that is shameful.
