Pros

no pros, can't think of one

Cons

No respect – your coworkers are late to meeting, no response to emails, speak loudly, interruption while you are talking on the phone. Executives/managers first. Only say yes and no say no. No humanity working in this company. No flexibility. 2 weeks of vacation pay each year but asking 2 weeks off is hard. You probably ending up take 1 week off only. The company has 401K plan but no matching at all from the company. Company is cheap, don’t expect your raise is high although you work long hours. They give you 200 dollars raise each year. Long working hours, no appreciation from the management or company. If you are a family oriented person then this is not a place for you because you will not have time for your family. 90% of the time your time will be in office. Poor communication and inefficient working style. No laptops only managers and up use laptops. If you are not managers, you better be prepared to work in the office day and nights. The company is cheap that they don't have winzip because they don't want to pay for it. THey make you use free download 7 days trial of winzip. This is a 2 billion dollar revenue company but yet what they use is not close to a high-tech at all. No winzip, computer systems are very out dated. No VPN, NO webex. 2 copies machines and using my 100 people in the whole building. Also this place is very political and it is not a good place to work at all.

Pros

Supermicro is a fast growing company in the current IT industry and the company is still running by both founder and co-founder. You can definitely explore your career life here based on a clear guidance from our management team. Confucius said, "Virtue is not left to stand alone. He who practices it will have neighbors." That's exactly what we learn from our management team. Always do the right thing to help company business success!!

Cons

Company is growing and we continue to hire talent people to join the team. Hiring managers and supervisors should spend time to train the new hires and make sure they can get into this fast growing working environment as well as company culture. As long as you can follow company guidance to perform your job, this is a great company for you to explore your career life.

Safe haven for the lazy and incompetent

Pros

Free breakfast: day old bagels, steamed buns, and a selection of bread every morning, 2 pieces of free fruit every Wednesday, and milk (seriously HR is REALLY proud of that one). This company doesn't know how to trim the fat. If you're looking to take it easy and looking for a free ride this could easily be your ticket. Nearly all the departments have bumps on a log that everyone just tolerates but no one wants to fire even though they're not bringing anything to the table. Management wants to save face instead of getting rid of the dead weight. It's too hard for anyone to admit that someone was a bad hire.

Cons

The CEO thinks that 10lbs of oatmeal is a suitable anniversary gift to the entire company (On the upside local food banks got plenty of donations). This company is super Taiwanese so if you don't speak mandarin you'll have a difficult time communicating with over half the company. Be prepared to play a highly political game. This is a very hostile work environment and Charles actually likes having people pitted against each other. HR is totally useless. I've seen so many people being verbally abused by their bosses and even heard about people physically striking their employees. SMC is a very strange place to work, because you'll never work anywhere else where everyone is openly talking about wanting to leave or hear about so many people quitting without giving notice.
