Pros

SurfMerchants has a unique skill where they focus on the candidates they hire, not just for their skillset, but how they will become successful in the organization. This was obvious through their interview process, which wasn't just about having the technical chops, but how would you fit in the work culture, which they worked hard at achieving. During my career, I held many responsibilities from individual contributor, lead to manager. These opportunities allowed me to continually gain many skills that helped form the work ethic I have today. Being my first professional job out of college, in a way I grew up at SurfMerchants. What I found most notable at Surfmerchants is they're bread and butter is mystery shopping software, but they were consistently making the right decision in the market space and finding new opportunities to continue their success. Standard Benefits that I miss are: *Not having to pay for healthcare *401k matching *Left with a really good amount of earned vacation days over the 7+ years *The entire company worked 60% from home allowing me to watch my kids grow up Cool benefits, some of which I still haven't seen after leaving are: *Bagel Wednesdays *Weekly Catered Lunch *Beer O'Clock *Innovaction Vacation *Snacks on demand *Incenterator *Life long friendships

Cons

While some reviews have noted lower pay, they surely make up with benefits like not having to pay for health care, 401k matching, increasing vacation days, paternity leave and a really unique work from home environment, which for me saved $$$ on daycare.

Pros

Superb atmosphere and work/life balance. I found that the work-from-home schedule made a big difference in my overall quality of life and the humorously irreverent and collegial atmosphere made coming to work fun. It is a small company and your contributions matter and you know it. The company runs lean and it needs you to do your job and lets you do it. If you've ever worked somewhere that cluttered up your work life with impediments, then you know how important this is to your own job satisfaction. It mattered to me that the owners of the company were present and working as hard or harder than everyone else and were managing the company towards longevity and sustainability. The offices are in downtown Boston, a half block from the Boston Common, which is a bona fide benefit if you want to take advantage of what the city has to offer. It also means the weekly catered lunches and occasional off-site party are superior to what you'd get in a different setting. And right around the corner, the French Hot Chocolate at Thinking Cup is to die for.

Cons

Working from home can be tough for some people but there are structures that prevent it from being isolating. Most groups have daily 'stand-up' meetings and you are connected with your coworkers via IRC and IM and voice-chat software.

Pros

Great employees, great owners, salary was competitive, time off and work from home policy was superb. I worked here for around three years and left only to take a position offering night schedule for family reasons. In the years since I left, I have remained in contact with management and they have been so helpful with recommendations, etc. as my career has moved forward. I can't recommend this company enough if you are bright and motivated. If you are looking to hide in a cubicle and float along on cruise control, look elsewhere. When I was there, this was a remarkably team-oriented place with new challenges and opportunities arising frequently. Loads of opportunity to learn from some very talented people.

Cons

Almost none. Parking, I suppose, but this is typical Boston. This is just a great company to work for, with opportunities for bright people in all stages of their careers.
