Pros

I can't speak for any other poster, but let me say that NO ONE ASKED ME TO WRITE THIS. After interviewing, I reconsidered taking the position I was offered after reading some reviews here, suffice to say, I'm glad I went with my gut instinct and accepted the position. It's a very dynamic environment. Things are always changing, always moving, always growing. This can make some people very uncomfortable, scared, nervous, but some of us thrive on this type of environment. Personally, I love it. As the company is growing exponentially, there is a lot of opportunity for growth if you want it. There is a positive aspect to the lack of structure -- I have worked in some highly structured corporate environments and I hated it, sucks the life out of you, and it is not conducive to a creative environment. Surya is very organic, and while it does need more infrastructure to frame its growth, I would hate to see it become some bureaucratic corporate machine. Everyone works really hard -- I'm not sure where the perception comes from that some people have it easy here, things are definitely different depending on what position you fill, but I have not seen anyone who doesn't pull their weight and more. They also play hard -- I love my job. The hours are long, sometimes I'm exhausted, but I knew that coming in, everyone was upfront in the interview process about what we would be expected of me. As hard as I work, I also have a great deal of fun.

Cons

Lack of structure -- there is also a challenging side to this, the company is having growing pains and it shows. There needs to be more infrastructure so that all of us can work more efficiently. From what I can see, upper management is aware of the issues the company is facing and attempting to address them. It's just going to take some time and effort to get it all sorted.

Thank you for the uplifting statement. As you said, Surya is going through tremendous growth, and is putting processes and procedures in place for our future. We realize structure is important to many people: Surya would probably not be a good fit for you if you need that environment, but if you thrive in an ambiguous setting and want to help build an organization, then let us know! www.surya.com/careers

Pros

NO pros that I can think of

Cons

Chaotic environment. No Structure. No Rules. No HR Department with 200+ employees. No defined job responsibilities and yet you will be held accountable for things that you don't even know exist! Employees are set up for failure unless you are part of the "party click" the environment here is like a fraternity with adults acting like college students. Sink or Swim mentality, you will not have any formal training to do your job. Employees here are left to figure things out for themselves and if you ask for help from your peers you will be left to figure it out yourself and/or fail. Very Negative environment. And they record everything you do, via phone recordings and cameras all around the offices. How can anyone feel secure here when they are treated in this manner? No positive reinforcement, and definitely no mentoring of employees. If you are looking for longevity this is not the place, they chew people up and spit them out. Churn and Burn. No Conscience for Humanity. Very Selfish and egotistical and in it for themselves. If you Travel with this company you will be forced to share rooms with people you don't even know, is this even legal? If you plan on using the insurance they promise that is also a joke! If you have any morals or respect for yourself this is not the place, no boundaries and no rules apply! Upper Management will ask you for your opinions and ideas yet they really don't care. No follow through and fly by the seat of their pants. They are hiring so many new people and yet have no direction. It's like herding cattle to see which ones they feel like keeping and the rest they just throw away like trash! All of the negative reviews listed here are true.

Surya hired a Director of Human Resources in early 2015 to help the leadership team develop processes and procedures designed to help ensure all employees understand their roles and how they help drive the organization. We're a small company, and during business travel, it's true, we do ask employees to share hotel rooms with the same gender colleagues (Yes, this is legal). Surya is proud to be able, even as a small company, to provide subsidized medical care, as well as life, and accident insurance at no cost to our employees.

Pros

From the Outside - Products are Innovative - but a lot of this is also smoke and mirrors. From the Outside - Marketing seems to be impressive - but money can buy anything - these people grind their vendors and suppliers to the bone.

Cons

The reviews that had been posted (those that are negative) are all true. It is definitely certain people who are asked (told) to provide good reviews. I'm posting this as a current employee and know that if they found out who I am, I would be released immediately. But I also feel I owe this revew to people who have to make a choice. Don't work here unless you aboslutely have to!!! Internal Perspective - Surya's growth is definitely at the expense of many wonderful, younger employees - I only say younger because they (we are perceived) that we don't know any better. Many of us continue to think we will move up - this will never happen at this place. We never know where we stand because it is run by an "Indian Boys" Club. Very egotistical people and business approach - lots of talking down to employees-even those that have stellar careers and impressive backgrounds. The management flies this place by the seat of their pants. There is absolutely no human resource function in place to provide any guidance or parameters. There is no respect and the owner rules this place. He is quoted in every press release - he is the one who wins the awards - he is the one on the radio - he is in it for himself. I've never heard him thank his employees for any of the awards. At a recent company meeting, he expressed that Delta and Apple and other major corporations are the past and his company is the future. What arrogance! It is a call-center environment and this is an absolute joke. We use a CRM system to gauge every minute and every conversation and every result. If your dashboard tells them your accounts are falling behind - you have personal meetings with your supervisor. If you did not log the call or made a mistake, you get scolded. And, the training is virtually non-existent. n fact, it is the first place where I have worked when you do ask a question, you are laughed at and made fun of. They keep cutting sales reps territories and giving the accounts to us as internal people. Totally counter productive and against everything that screams the american way. What incentive would I have to build my territory when - just as I have success and build my territory - you take the growth away. This is also happening inside! Travel and the way we are treated is a joke. You share rooms with complete strangers and travel on free air mileage. No privacy. No concern for the employee. Company makes huge sales and they put you up in less than desirable accomodations. As a female, this is scary and not advisable. The owner drives a porsche and they question my mileage?? They talk about "their culture" and I see capable and impressive people come and go. Some people are there 1 month and leave because they hate it - and they are fortunate - as they got to leave. Others are here for 1 Year and they hate every minute of this place. While I can be objective and chalk some of this turnover to growth - most of it is attributed to people leaving on their own or they are pushed out by the boys club. The company was trying to raise money for a charitable organization recently - and one of the top managers actually suggested to take the money out of our (the runners' pay) - with or without our permission. Charity based on "strong-arm" tactics. You gotta love that! The company and the owner receive applause when they hit the charitable goal - all at the expense of the employees (again). While the Atlanta job market is difficult, I hope to find something else very soon. I have to get out of this restrictive and unappreciated environment very soon. I dislike being here every day.
