Pros

Good location for me as I live in San Francisco and its close to my residence. This is the reason I stay here.

Cons

As other RN's have said on here, CPMC pays RN's low compared to the other San Francisco hospitals. You can see what UCSF pays their clinical nurse II for example simply by googling "USCF medical center nurse pay and tier." They pay over 10% more overall (plus better benefits). Other CPMC employees may say the pay and benefits are good, and for them they probably are, but not for nurses. For us RN's, CPMC pays low for San Francisco and has probably the worst benefits: The pension plan is not very strong. They stopped matching on the 403b plan which is like a 401k. The health insurance we are given frankly sucks. You can only go to a Sutter affiliated doctor. To me these are all cons. CPMC use to pay well, had blue cross health insurance, matched on the 403b, and appreciated that nurses are the backbone of the hospital. Now we are treated like a robot and number, and not appreciated or compensated, and it reflects that feeling.

Pros

Great benefits: pension, 401k matching, low healthcare cost for family. Up to date technology and smart people to work with. Collaboration station for meetings is a great resource.

Cons

Work environment at Sutter Shared Services (S3) is too rigid. Most employees are non-exempt and requires punching a time clock! No more cubicles or privacy. Environment can be distracting to work in. Management's focus is all about meeting SLAs or metrics not about the employee growth or job satisfaction. Very limited PTO (sick, holiday, and pto combined.)

Pros

I enjoyed working in the ER at CPMC- Pacific Campus because of the great camaraderie amongst the staff and the common goal of making sure the best interests of our patients are ensured. From environmental services, registration, to the nursing supervisors, hospitalists, fellow ER nurses, and ER docs I have no doubt that every patient is genuinely respected and cared for. Everybody worked tirelessly to the best of their abilities.

Cons

Unfortunately, with management and higher administration, there is a lack of transparency. There is an unbelievable amount of distrust between management and staff. As a more senior nurse, having worked in the department for almost 9 years, there was no sense of support. Resources were lacking including staffing appropriately during high patient traffic times (I.e. Holidays on night shift). #1 reason why many RNs left was due to high stress environment including going 12.5 hrs of work with only 1 15-minute break due to understaffing. Hiring freeze continues but experienced nurses are not even applying because it is almost the lowest paid ER in the city and one of the busiest ERs in the city.
