Pros

physician coworkers were good people and were collegial

Cons

As the acquisition of Swedish by Providence matured and the company became all that much larger and corporate, the self-efficacy of the clinician staff diminished to the point that c-suite leaders actually said at once that primary care was necessary to pull the company thru the pandemic but that docs would have to see more patients with less visit time and without any additional resources or compensation and that if we didn't like it we could leave

Pros

I can't speak to the role of Providence, but will speak to my experience with Swedish for 10 years. Physician and RN leadership keeps system focused on patient care over business. When there are changes, leadership will meet with us in small groups or individually to discuss our concerns. Many people in Swedish leadership have been with Swedish for a decade or more, so it feels less hierarchical than a system of this size might otherwise feel. Leadership did support us thru the pandemic when we were not able to work. Outpatient physicians have a lot of control over our schedules.

Cons

Mostly suffering from regional issues of MA understaffing. As a physician, having to do a lot of extra work and deal with daily staffing uncertainty due to lack of support. Some stress related to the fact that compensation does not adjust for inflation or cost of living changes. No real observable attempt to address real causes of physician burnout. No sick leave or paid time off. No sabbatical or reward for longevity at Swedish.
