Toxic, Toxic, Toxic!!!

Pros

I get a paycheck. Some of my coworkers

Cons

Toxic work culture. There is a lot of BULLYING within this organization. Cliques are formed based off, who known who longer. The culture would change if they get rid of toxic individuals. Instead they give them even bigger titles. If you’re not in they will find a way to weed you out. Furthermore, management is terrible. Benefits are high, you pay for parking. We are underpaid, and over worked. Promotions are based on skin color. There is no flexibility even though they say it. There is no diversity even though again they say diversity is something they strive for. Turn over is high for those exact reason.

Ideas Unwelcome

Pros

The benefits are generous, if you choose to take advantage of them, and if you have children. It seems like there are a lot of opportunities to move within the University.

Cons

Micromanaging, bullying, and gossips poorly trained managers; it is not a work environment conducive for empowering excellence. I've asked (HR and other administrative staff) the best practice to work around this- I was then retaliated against. I let this be known, only to be told that "retaliation is taken seriously"- but nothing was done; retaliation is not taken seriously IME. This is exactly why problems get worse. There is a lot of gossip and bullying- perpetrated by management. The consequence after reporting the behavior is retaliation against the tattletale. It's an issue at Syracuse University. Manager not willing to accept any criticism. Manager not willing to accept any changes, or new ideas. Get's visibly upset if an idea is presented; reprimands staff for interfering with the process, and being disruptive. Manager will not confront issues directly- uses staff members to "communicate" messages to to other staff members. Inappropriate behavior. The managers do not seem to be trained as managers- or poorly trained. The work/life balance depends on your manager. IME- the Culture here is mean spirited, closed minded, with managers that bully with (poorly) veiled insults and microaggressions. And slow. So slow, and inefficient, so much time wasted on irrelevant tasks.
