Pros

Small company with good teamwork, overall nice people, relaxed environment

Cons

The company has been headed in a terrible direction for years now and is not doing anything to course correct. There are a few bad apples in the organization who basically terrorize their direct reports and manage to keep their jobs after multiple HR complaints. Layoffs, constant new management, and people jumping ship made it very stressful.

Pros

Definitely the customers, building relationships. Nice working in climate control and being nicely dressed and smelling good every day!

Cons

Poor/almost no leadership from store manager and DM. Leadership would not address serious issues, but allowed pettiness to take place. Favoritism abounded. No recognition for those who were top performers and extremely hard workers. No training, only flippant/random "coaching". Lengthy wasteful time spent on "conference calls" several times a week. When asked about training, was told "you just learn as you go". Extremely high turnover. Don't expect full-time unless you get assistant manager, then you will carry that load plus store manager's job! Be prepared to do a lot of "filling in", so no life except that of Talbots! And forget about being considered for career advancement unless you kiss up!

Pros

There are some really great employees that work for Talbots. The employee discount is generous and the clothing is appealing. The culture shift should bring positive changes to Talbots.

Cons

There is little to no work life balance. Expectations are set very high with minimal support and communication from members of upper field management. Some upper field managers are not consistent with managing to the message set forth by senior management (corporate.) Very little recognition given and you are not shown any appreciation for going above and beyond since that is what is expected at ALL times. Pay is low for associates in comparison to the amount of work they do. Customers are very needy and can be rude to associates at times.
